As in all churches of the saints, the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says.
Just curious about this when I came across it. I know several times that women have read some of the readings (never the Gospel of course) during Mass. I was just wondering what the Church’s stance on this matter was. I know its not just my parish when I went back home to my parents parish they also had women reading.
I do not know the exact quotes from canon law or GIRM, but women are allowed to read what was formerly known as the Epistle, as well as the first reading. They are not allowed to read the Gospel, nor are unordained men. That’s reserved for deacons and above.
This passage is taken out of context, and out of its historical and cultural time element. As Catholics, we rely not on sola scriptura, but also on Tradition and the Magesterium. To go pulling quotes out of the Bible to say the Church is not following the Bible is very protestant in action.
If you want to research the historical time element, you would know that during that period of time, worship was conducted with men on one side and women on the other. The wife, for example Ida, was not supposed to yell at her husband, Moses, across the worship site, for an explanation of what was being said. She could ask him at home. Read the whole thing.
Now, if you want to debate it, you’ll have to find somebody else. I am sure there’s somebody else who will come along for that. Talk to FrCorey: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=108646
Wow calm down a little I was asking mere question. Although I am new to Catholicism I am a devout Catholic, I just had never read this Bible verse before.

Ok, could you please put it in context for me? Just because you say so doesnt make it so.

Where did I say this? I asked the question because I wanted to know the correct answer to give incase I was blind sided by this verse by a protestant.

I dont want to debate it. I want the Catholic church’s stance, which is guided and protected by the Holy Spirit, on the matter.
