There are a few Fr. Gruner groupies in my pro-life prayer group. Usually, they are pretty quiet about their views. But today, one of them started going on about the Russia consecration, and the words “shed you and for all” in the vernacular Mass. All of which I can properly dispute. But then he started on this idea that Pope John Paul II somehow contradicted a previous Pope on the subject of religious liberty? 
Anyway, does anyone here know how to refute this or if it is true? I told him I would look into his claim and we’d talk about it next week, because I had never heard this one before! Thanks in advance for your help!! 
Yeah, to my recollection he went against Pius IX’s Syllabus of Errors and Pius X’s Pascendi.
Could you go into a little more detail for me, or is it too much trouble?
