Hi, this is my first post so I’m sorry if it’s in the wrong place! I have a cross that I would like to have blessed but I’m not sure how to go about it. Would a priest bless it for me?Thanks
I think he would. Been my experience that they are happy to do so. Tim
Welcome aboard:thumbsup:
A priest is the only person that could bless it for you. Ask your parish priest after Mass (wait until the exiting crowd thins out).
Thanks this is really helpful I don’t know if I’m being stupid but how would a priest bless something? Do they use holy water?
He would impart the blessing adlib or by a specific prayer. Either way it is legit. It also depends on what kind of Crucifix it is. A Benedictine Crucifix may be blessed with an exorcism and blessing of St. Maurus. He may use Holy Water if you have a bit on hand. Tim
I always take items, crucifixes, medals, etc. to my priest after Mass. Sometimes he uses Holy water and other times he just says prayers over them. I had 3 four way crosses that I wanted him to bless with the brown scapular blessing, and he just got out his special book and blessed them all with that special blessing.
On this topic, what about a pocket rosary? Like the little one-decade rings
Sure, he can bless just about anything, especially any form of rosary.
I’m glad you asked the question! I was wondering this myself since I’m fairly new to the Church and haven’t had anything blessed yet. Thank you.
No problem!
Thanks so much, I will be getting my cross blessed as soon as possible
