Just wondering how long it takes everyone to say the Rosary. I have people tell me that it’s no big deal to say the Rosary because it only takes 10-15 minutes. For me, it takes more like 30-40.
10-15 min
It often takes me 20 min to 1 hour, depending on how slow I’m going. Sometimes I go really slow and focus on each and every word I am saying, while reflecting on the mysteries. Whew, what if I had a 15 decade rosary? I’d be praying it for three hours!
I don’t think there’s a wrong amount of time, it is not bad if you tend to spend more time than others.
EWTN takes 30minutes so I take 30 minutes.
When I do my evening walking rosary 15 min. When I do the rosary before the Blessed Sacrament, concentrating on each mystery, it can take a half hour.
Dang you guys were FAST! You even responded before I could get the poll up!
I don’t think so either, but I know I have a hard time concentrating for the 30 minutes or so it takes me. Plus I find it hard to sit down and pray the Rosary when it takes a half hour.
I have an audio recording on my computer that has the Rosary. I’ve edited it, so that it says the entire rosary in 30 seconds! So now I pray 20 Rosaries in just 10 minutes, and I am becoming really holy . . . just kidding! What a terrible thing that would be if it were true!
That may be another reason it can take me a while, sometimes my mind starts wandering and I’m tempted to just recite Hail Mary’s while thinking about something else, like what to eat for breakfast the next morning…
Also, I’m trying not to say it at bed time anymore, because I can fall asleep much more easily, as I’ve pointed out in that other thread I started. :o
I voted 20-30 minutes, because that is probably average for me, but it depends on a lot of factors…
I think that if I am really deeply meditating on each mystery, it takes quite a bit longer than that.
If I am in great distress, on the other hand, I may “fly” through it, 2 or 3 times in a row, before I am settled enough to really pray instead of just “say” it…But I find that this is a very calming thing for me to do, even though it means that I am only spending 10 or 15 minutes for each time, I am re-collecting my thoughts into some semblance of order…(By the way, this is one of the best ways I know to calm yourself down: just pray over & over until you settle into that place of calmness again).
20-30 minutes …assuming you mean five decades of a certain set of mysteries.
It takes me 15-20 minutes if I’m awake enough, and up to 30 if I’m kinda sleepy (usually I say a rosary while I’m trying to fall asleep, if I don’t finish it, then I hope my guardian angel does!!), or really into it.
15-20 min. for me usually. 30 min. tops.
If I try to go any slower than that my feeble mind will wander.
Another poster said that he or she uses the rosary to calm down, I do that also, but then I don’t meditate on the mystries and just say the prayers. When I’m settled, I will pray the rosary the proper way.
It takes me about 20 minutes.
It takes me 20-30 minutes.
We have an independent radio station here WELW which plays the rosary every morning around 5:45AM or sometimes a few minutes later, and it takes them about 13 minutes. (It’s pretty quick and I think it is TOO Fast).
When we say the Rosary our Deacon leads at church, before the Mass on Sunday mornings, it usually takes about 20 min. When I’m saying it on my own it takes about 15 minutes.
It’s been decades since I’ve been able to say an entire rosary without falling asleep. Several times my wife has found me kneeling, rosary in hand, eyes closed and snoring.
In grammer school, the nuns often said that if we fall asleep while praying the rosary, our guardian angel finishes it for us.
It takes one hour to walk around the golf course praying the entire rosary, with the prayers afterward. Sometimes I am focussed, sometimes I’m not, but I just keep walking and praying and don’t worry about it.
just as well, seeing as i haven’t finished a rosary in the past few months now.
I have heard people say it takes them 15 minutes and I think, “Impossible.” When I try to pray the rosary with my Mom she say her prayers really fast in comparison to me and I can not keep up with her. It takes me 30 to 40 minutes and sometimes longer. I try to use it as the place I go to do my main prayer, putting all my prayer intentions in Our Blessed Mothers hands.
Some people who say the rosary fast do not do it that way just for speed, I have come to realize, they actually are getting their prayer time out of it, although I can not.
The Rosary is a very “high” prayer second only to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.
