How long does the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper usually last? I have family coming this weekend for my RCIA conformation and need to buy some groceries. I want to spend tomorrow at Church and silent from 12-3. I just wanted to see if it is longer than a regular Mass.
I dunno elsewhere but here we start at 7:00pm and Mass itself goes until 8:30 or 9:00pm.
That does not include the procession to the place where the Eucharist will be reposed and adoration afterward.
My parish bulletin said to allow 1.5 hr if you wish to attend.
I’m excited about tonight! I plan to attend the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at my old Church since my regular Church only has the Solemn Evening Liturgy (since it’s an older pastor that presides there). I have never witnessed the washing of the feet. I think it’s going to be amazing!
The depends on if only 12 are having their feet washed or if EVERYONE in the church at the Mass is going to participate?
I am confused. The “Solemn Evening Liturgy” and the Mass of the Lord’s Supper are the same thing, are they not? That is where the footwashing takes place.
Ha! I almost said that too. The times I’ve been to parishes where *anyone * could get their feet washed, Mass was never less than two hours.
I’m excited too! During the washing of the feet, we will be chanting the Latin antiphons out of the Liber Usualis.
Ours will be about an hour and a half, with Adoration until midnight, to follow.
I am inviting the boys from our Confirmation class to be among the “12 Apostles” for the washing of the feet. Most of them are very excited about this.
3 days
At one parish here it’s 7 to 9 PM.
You really need a “stirring the pot” smilie, don’t you?
(Of course the Holy Thursday part isn’t three days.)
I think it may depend on which form of the Mass. Last year, I went to the EF High Mass at my parish. It was at least a couple of hours long. Not sure if I will go tonight, I am have been having muscle tightness in my right leg which means I may cramp up.
I have just been to mass of the Lords Supper
Here in the UK it started at 7-30pm finished at 8-45pm.OF Mass adoration until midnight.
It was a beautiful service.
