(CNSNews.com) – In 2012, there were more black babies killed by abortion (31,328) in New York City than were born there (24,758), and the black children killed comprised 42.4% of the total number of abortions in the Big Apple, according to a report by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The report is entitled, Summary of Vital Statistics 2012 The City of New York, Pregnancy Outcomes, and was prepared by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Office of Vital Statistics. (See Pregnancy Outcomes NYC Health 2012.pdf)
Additionally, I don’t know why this is being brought up now as it is not news. It has been pointed out many times especially to those who claim to have the best interest and welfare of the African Americans at heart. But, to my knowledge, none of their “community leaders” have taken any steps to rectify the situation.
According to the data, blacks in NYC also have a much higher incidence of spontaneous abortion, much higher incidence of preterm infants, much higher incidence of low-birth weight babies, and the mothers are much more likely to get no prenatal care, or late prenatal care.
If we are interested in the welfare of pregnant women and the babies in their womb, I think we need to address more than abortion.
A person would have to be a racist to post something like this. What difference does the race make? Woman have abortions for largely economic reasons, IE they can’t afford to have a child. Abortion is wrong, but so is racism. IMHO.
How in God’s good name is pointing out that more black babies are being killed than born racist? Seriously, how do you arrive at racism from this? See, this is what’s wrong with the political correctness. The moment anyone even mention race, they’re racist. (Unless, of course, they’re bashing white people, which is perfectly fine)
Instead of crying racist, why not look at the statistics and realize how abhorrent they are, that so many black women either chose or are forced to murder their children?
“Abortion is black genocide…What happens to the mind of a person and the moral fabric of a nation that accepts the aborting of the life of a baby without a pang of conscience”
This is nonsense. New York state has medicaid, with income limits to match wages (you can be employed above the minimum wage and still qualify). If you are pregnant the standards are even lower, you don’t even have to be a citizen or even a documented resident. Once you get medicaid all you do is show up to your appointments, there seems to be clinics that specifically seem to take Medicaid patients, (medicaid will assign you a clinic if you don’t know where to go). I was on medicaid in NY (though not in NYC), I paid exactly nothing during my pregnancy, not for appointments, not for prescriptions (actually now that I think about it, there might have been a $1 copay for some prescriptions, but now that the ACA is in effect, I would imagine that more prescriptions are free), not for specialists. The children born while mother is on medicaid also get medicaid for at least a year. There was even this clinic type thing where they would help you with your application and do a quick blood test, so they could confirm your pregnancy for the agency.
It was easier to get on medicaid that it was to get my driver’s license in NY. A 30 minute appointment, with a 10 minute follow up call, because they didn’t know how to count my student loans, verses a 4 hour wait at the DMV for virtually no reason, since we didn’t need to take a test or anything, they just had to verify our identities and give us a new card.
So the access to healthcare among the poor in NY is there and relatively easy to access. Maybe if these places doing abortions converted into real OB clinics, then there would be even more places for women to go for real health care. (Also NY allows for Certified Nurse Midwives to care for women and deliver babies, thus broadening the access to prenatal care).
That sounds good, but there seems to be some shortfall, since care isnt being given and the babies are suffering or dying because of it. I think we need to recognize this is an important issue for us to address, if we truly are concerned about the welfare of black mothers and their unborn children.

Yes, maybe so. But is it realistic to think it will happen? I don’t know what the answer is, but the statistics show that there is a problem.
Yet none of this addresses the real issue of how many children are being aborted. The people getting abortions, are making it to their appointments, have the extra cash to get one done (it’s not free and medicaid doesn’t pay for it), and choosing to kill their babies, not suffering from miscarriages, still births, or preterm labors. Fixing or trying to fix the problem of people not seeking prenatal care, low birth weight, preterm births (generally related issues), and miscarriages is not going to fix the number of African American women seeking abortions.
Jesse Jackson used to teach that abortion was genocide in Chicago. That was when he was a pastor without political ambitions in the Democratic Party. When he became a politician he did not show much compassion for either New Yorkers or the unborn.
Of course, he could not be called a racist. He is black.
The fact that there is less prenatal care among a group that is also more likely to get abortions actually is quite significant. Most PPs are in areas that are poorer areas. On the other hand, the best doctors of all stripes (including OB/GYNs) often stay out of poorer areas, and often do not accept Medicaid. And even if they do, it may not be that easy for poorer women to get there. So, if the one place that you have access to (PP) is counseling you to kill your baby? Seriously - these women are counseled into believing that they have no other choice. The only way to combat the predatory practices of PP in poorer areas of cities is for legit pro-life OB/GYNs to overwhelm them and accept Medicaid.
Because it relates to the welfare of the unborn baby. Late or no prenatal care means, in addition, late or no ultrasounds, late or no recognition & coming to terms with pregnancy, late or no support for a good outcome…all of which increases the chances of abortion.
Seriously, I’ve been on this board a long time but the way in which abortion is sometimes portrayed as a single isolated issue, NEVER ceases to amaze me.
