Patron Saint for Deafness and Hearing Problems?

Dear CAF… Maybe someone knows. Is there a particular Patron for deafness and hearing problems? I’m having a bit of trouble with this, and would like to ask for the intercession of such a saint.

Were any of the saints deaf? I can’t recall… hmm. Hope someone knows. Thank you and God bless.

Well, I guess I answered my own question :o The Patron for Deafness and Hearing Impaired is St. Frances De Sales. Because he had a great love for the Deaf, and worked with them in his ministry.

St. Francis de Sales… pray for me and for all who suffer (temporary or permanent) hearing loss. Amen. :gopray:

(P.S. If anyone knows other saints for the hearing impaired, please feel free to add them to this thread. Thanks and God bless).

Thanks for finding Francis de Sales. I lost my hearing very suddenly. Now have only 60% in my right ear…the left ear is 0%! Francis will be getting a little “nudge” every day from now on. Thanks again!!

Although she is not yet a saint but only a blessed, I would recommend Blessed Mary Angela, foundress of the Felician Sisters. She herself suffered from deafness.

Join the club, although my ears are reversed, ie. my right ear is virtually deaf, and my left ear is probably around your level of 60% (I suspect a bit less). You’d have no sense of direction with sound either. If a plane flies overhead, you’ll have to look all over the sky to find it. Or spin around when someone calls out your name, and hope you recognise them.

But I was born with it as far as I know, and have been wearing a hearing aid since I was a kid, so I’m used to it, and don’t actually pray for healing (apart from a comment occasionally - “You know, Lord, it’d be nice to get full hearing at times …”).

But for someone who has lost their hearing suddenly, it has a very big impact, particularly in the social area. And I don’t care how much marketing the hearing aid companies do, I’m still cynical when they claim they can clarify conversations in a crowd for instance. I’ve been wearing a hearing aid for decades, and I know what they can do, and what they can’t do.

So I suppose you could pray to Francis de Sales et al. To be honest though, the only time I have heard of someone getting their hearing restored miraculously was that of the Sister who witnessed Mary at Akita in Japan in the 1970’s. And even then it was a protracted process. No doubt there are other cases, but I haven’t heard of any.

I might add a rider to my post above. The Baptist pastor who married my wife and I (we were both Protestant at the time) once stated “I think you might get your hearing restored”. But I don’t set much stock by it. If it happens, it happens, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

If on the other hand, my own “old pastor” (whom I’ve referred to in other posts, and some of whose predictions I’ve also mentioned) had much such a comment, I’d have real hopes of it happening, since I found he was so accurate. But unfortunately he never made any such comment.:nunchuk:

So it looks as though I’m stuck with it. I suppose I could pray to St. Francis de Sales, but until I read this thread, I never even considered it.

Restoring hearing isn’t the only reason to pray to these fine saints. You can also pray for assistance dealing with the challenges that come from being a deaf and hard of hearing person.

St. Maria Crocifissa di Rosa founded a school for the hearing impaired.

St. Katharine Drexel. Both of her approved miracles were cures of deafness.

I’m deaf/hearing impaired but not sure exactly if I hear natural sound or not.

Really? cool .

The Patron Saint for deafness and/or hearing problems is: St. Cornelious?
