Poland to probe if Teletubbies are gay

I know it is an old rumor, but someone is taking it seriously

Poland to probe if Teletubbies are gay

WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland’s conservative government took its drive to curb what it sees as homosexual propaganda to the small screen on Monday, taking aim at Tinky Winky and the other Teletubbies.

Ewa Sowinska, government-appointed children rights watchdog, told a local magazine published on Monday she was concerned the popular BBC children’s show promoted homosexuality.

Oh sigh!

THe teletubbies are genderless creatures so they have nothing sexual about them. Unless being gay means not having any gender, then no they aren’t promoting a homosexual lifestyle.

Now if they wanted to go after them for being strange and a bit creepy, that would be different:p .

There is definately something weird going on with those teletubby characters.

What gets me is the baby face in the sky that they seem to worship.

That show just creeps me out.

I thought this would be over once Falwell died!

And yeah, the baby face in the sky is just freaky.

Oh, man. Don’t they have anything better to do with their time and resources?

No. Many years ago, Tom Lehrer summed it up in one of his songs…

“When correctly viewed, EVERYTHING is lewd!” Or Gay, Or Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, anything and everything whatsoever if you apply enough fantasy to it. :whacky:

Teletubbies freaked me out, but come on, you have to admit, Boobah’s is worse.

I think Poland is doing something other countries are afraid to do and that’s to confront the push of the homosexual agenda. If this is their stepping stone, I hope it’s a firm one for them.

I think this might be tilting at windmills, but I wouldn’t mind seeing children’s TV a bit more educational and a little comprised of creepy little characters that don’t ever really seem to do anything. However, it’s good to see Poland’s government is ensuring that inapporiate matters like homosexuality, which have no place in schools, remain outside.

Are they investigating Sesame Street too? I mean, that Bert and Ernie situation…scandalous! :stuck_out_tongue:

How about Fred and Barney, they spent more time with each other then their wives:D oh the scandal:p

And let’s not even start in on the cast of Jonny Quest, oh my goodness me… :tsktsk:

I believe they do have gender – Tinky Winky and Dipsy are boys, and LaLa and Po are girls – but they are just babies!

If a real-life 18 month old boy saw a handbag, picked it up, and carried it around a while, would anyone automatically assume he was gay? At that age, isn’t the handbag just one more brightly-colored object to be curious about? Who, at that age, knows or cares that they are hetero- or homosexual? :stuck_out_tongue:

(I think Boobah is weirder than Teletubbies – they look like Teletubbies on a drug trip  )

I used to love that show, along with Ultraman, Godzilla and Speed Racer. Please tell me that there isn’t some horrid plot behinc them!

This is senseless paranoia.

Agreed.

Apparently the issue is over a ‘male’ character using a handbag. While this was probably not the intention of the program producer (I doubt toddlers would understand such a message, even if it were symbolically present) it is understandable why fundamentalist and extremely conservative evangelicals got up in arms about it (as they tend to see a great deal of modern culture as anti-Christian).

Race and Hadji? No, no creepy ephebophilic teacher/student subtext there, not at all

Andruschak is right on with the Lehrer quote. ‘Smut’ is such a great song

Stop! Stop! I am trying to rid my mind of extra unneeded information. Because you used a word I have never heard, I had to look it up. Now I know a new word. Drat you ,Mirdath!

don’t forget Scooby Doo… what’s up with Wilma not being interested in guys, and why is it that Fred and Daphne are always off together. Shaggy and Scooby always have the munchies… :stuck_out_tongue:

Agreed. My understanding is that Poland is about 97% Catholic and most people are devout. Now for the rest of Europe…
