Pope, urging young Russians to be proud of their heritage, stirs controversy

I imagine that ordinary Russians must feel as though the rest of the world despises them for what’s happening now and during Putins evil dictatorship and it’s a good thing that the Pope can slip under the fence and assure them that they aren’t.

I just don’t see a problem here, unless one wanted to interpret it as “yes, and back then, Ukraine was part of Russia”.

Russia does have a great and noble history, outstanding contributions in music and literature, and is historically a Christian nation with valid sacraments and apostolic succession.

Sadly, militant atheism and suppression of free enterprise in the 20th century, and naked aggression in the 21st, have marred that history.

I have to think he was referring to a time before then.
