This morning the Holy See announced the decision of Pope Benedict XVI to name Bishop-elect Eduardo A. Nevares as Auxiliary Bishop of Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
We all need to say a little prayer for new Bishop Nevares. Some jobs are tougher than others; I would say Bishop of Phoenix is off the grid.
Why?
He will start out in the midst of an immigration debate.
Since he is only being named an Auxiliary Bishop, I suspect, at least in the beginning, he would simply defer to the ordinary.
