Good for them! Hopefully this will neutralise any hurt caused to Muslims living in NYC, that have seen the original adverts.

*After anti-Muslim ads hit NYC subways last month, Jewish and Christian groups respond with a message of love – hanging pro-Muslim posters to condemn intolerance and celebrate the city’s diversity.

Rabbis for Human Rights – North America and the Sojourners Christian group will place their adverts right next to the anti-jihad messages that were released by pro-Israel group, the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI).The organization covered 10 Manhattan stations, despite strong objection by the city’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The original text by the AFDI declared “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

The ad by Rabbis for Human Rights- North America will say “In the choice between love and hate, choose love. Help stop bigotry against our Muslim neighbors.”

“Love your Muslim neighbors,” is the message on the Sojourners’ ad.*

*“Our subway platforms and buses should not be the platform for messages of hate that divide friends, neighbors, and colleagues,” read a message on the Rabbis for Human Rights – North America’s website.

Last week the United Methodist Women Church unveiled its response to the AFDI posters with an ad saying “Hate speech is not civilized. Support peace in word and deed.”

“We needed to be present with a counter voice, we need to stand for the work of peace, and to say that free speech should not be used recklessly or in an inflammatory way,” United Methodist Women General Secretary, Harriett J. Olson, said during an interfaith press conference on Sept. 25th.*

They ought to put those in Northern Nigeria where Islamic Extremists targetted Christians this past week, how about the London Subway too for that 7-7-05 attack.
Or Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia…

Ironic that posters denouncing jihad raise more hackles than the actual act.

50 Christians burned alive in a church in Sudan?

Meh.

D-grade youtube video insults Mohammed?

“I KEEEEL YOU!!!”

Right PepiPop??
There are good and bad Christians, Muslims and any religion throughout the world. The groups you refer to are terrorist extremists. There are peace loving Muslims too, that worship the God of Abraham and go about their daily business.

Having come from a country where the two sides fighting were both christian (catholic and protestant) and fought a civil war for years, I am well aware of terrorist extremists from any religion, and also fully aware of the peace keeping individuals from same. You cannot tar a religious organisation through terrorists.

One might make the arguement that the violence of Islam and Christianity has been going on and off for 900 years also.

“Evil men and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived” ( 2 Timothy 3:13 ) Jesus Christ promised that He would not cast away any that would come to Him ( John 6:37 ) There is no mention of any mohammed claiming the same, bet your soul on Jesus Christ not Satan.

Muslims in the Middle East should be putting up posters decrying terrorist attacks and asking followers of Islam to love their Jewish and Christian neighbors. It will never happen. Not a chance.

Yes, but is that not more to do with their government situations and lack of freedom of speech? I doubt they’re allowed to put up any posters at all. I am sure there are Muslims with Christian friends and vice versa, in those countries. I noted one CAF poster, a few weeks ago, state that a Muslim friend of his was helping to protect a Catholic church in the Middle East when the riots were happening. Same as where I came from, protestants and catholics were good friends, intermarried, etc… but there were extremists from both sides.

Whatever the reason, I am saying you will not see it happen. If you claim its because of repressive governments, so be it. Is there something about Islam that brings about repressive governments that rule with an iron-clad religious fist?

I’m not sure of the meaning of your post however the catechism states:_

**841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”[330]

How come the Muslims cannot reconcile themselves with us? at least to a stalemate?

How come all they wanted to do was kill all the infidels in the case of the extremists? or in the lesser, treat the “infidels” as outcasts? I wont be the first to fight them as I respect them, however I wonder:

What is their bone to pick with us?

What did we ever do to them?

Nobody questions the Church’s positive message to Muslims. What is Islam’s message to Christians, particularly as evidenced by their actions?

No, you probably won’t see it happen within such countries. As to whether Islam brings about repressive governments - I genuinely don’t know if it is due to Islam or if it’s ingrained in their culture throughout the ages.

One of the finest men I have meet is Egyptian and Muslim and he gets along with Israelis, I mean I have seen him talk with Israelis like they are old friends at a computer store. Likewise he gets along with Christians and though he is not a type of “strict” Muslim, he certainly has his Koran and some saying in Arabic I presume from the Koran in a type of cloth wall-hanging. Also, once he was in an emergency and he asked where there is a Catholic Priest. True story, he needed some help and I’m not sure if he had exhausted his help from Muslim resources.

So, undeniably there are very good Muslims out there, Barbary Coast Pirates (Muslims) took St. Vincent De Paul as a slave, St. Vincent had one kind Muslim owner and I think St. Vincent gained his freedom, not even sure if he had to escape.

But there are certainly radicals out there, that is certain.

Crusades.

Crusades.
How many centuries ago? They carry the Crusades with them today? C’mon, the world has moved on. Muslims live in a 4th century time warp. Look at how they treat women or people naming Teddy Bears Muhammed, for example. Don’t just examine the actions of a small number of terrorists. Watch TV and see the thousands of whistling women and cheering men burning flags while demonstrating against the United States and the West (in general). Where are all the kind Muslims supporting us?

Crusades.
The Crusades were a REaction to violent Muslim expansion in the Middle East.

In case most missed it, Turkey (Asia, Galatia, Bithynia, Pontus and Cappadocia), North Africa, Egypt, Syria, and most of the Levant was the “Cradle of Christianity” for 600 years before Muhammed’s birth.

Islam didn’t spread there by peaceful proselytizing.

Crusades.
True. But THAT was after they routed the Visigoths in North Africa, persecuted Jews in conquered Jerusalem, invaded France and only got pushed back by Charles Martel. All unprovoked aggression.

Not to mention, the Crusader states and “Kingdom of Jerusalem” lasted for about 100 years.

If we’re keeping score, Southern Spain was under Muslim dominion for 781 years, Greece for 381, and the former “Byzantium” still is.

Also, look into the Ottoman “Janissaries” and the “devşirme” system. Eastern European Christians had to submit their children for forced conversion to Islam, and conscription in the Sultan’s army from the 1300’s all the way up until 1826.

Really, whenever people mention these things, the Crusades happened in Medieval Times, the Dark Ages of all things. 1200 AD or something… and the Crusades is a topic of study in itself, excesses but also defense of the West to some extent.

I think Christianity was more widespread in the Middle East around that time.
