Unless anyone can convince me otherwise, I am going to vote for the pro choice democrat for governor in the state of Illinois this next election.

The republicans nominated a pro CHOICE candidate Judy Baar Topinka as the Illinois candidate.

If a democrat is pro life and nominated, the support from the pro choice people is taken away.

I think we pro life people need to send a message. The way I feel right now is that I want to campaign against her.

Please correct me if I am wrong?

Sincerely,
Dave

The Catholic Answers voter’s guide is here. You might want to read it over before voting.

I am familiar with the voting guide. It is very good.

My point is that we cannot allow the support for pro life to erode among elected officials. At this point most republicans run on a pro life platform as most democrats run on a pro choice platform.

We have to make a stand on this and have our voice heard so this pro life platform does not continue to erode.

I say this as a Republican… if the Republican candidate is pro-abort, and you agree with the Democratic party on more issues than nothing is stopping you from voting for the Democratic candidate.

btw, I like your quote and am a fan of C.S. Lewis.

I cannot say that I agree with more of the democrats views, but I can say that I do not like the support that the republican party gave this candidate and I am really afraid of an erosion in the pro life support by the republican platform.

That is my primary reason for voting for the democrat.

You could also support the Constitution Party, constitutionparty.com. They might not have a candidate in the election you speak of however.

I’d stay home and not vote in such an election with no pro-life candidate.
I would also write a letter to the Illinois Republican Party cancelling my membership in and support of, the State Republican Party and explain WHY.

Personally, if all the candidates were pro-abortion, I’d vote for the least of the evils. In a situation like this, abandoning the voting process wouldn’t help our own cause, in my opinion.

I went to the Constitution Party’s website and looked at their platform. While I agree with quite a few of their points (especially their stance on the Right to Life), I wonder if they’re maybe just a little TOO conservative and constitutional. Some of the things they’re desiring include abolishing the Departments of Education and Energy, repealing the Voting Rights Act, and putting a temporary moratorium on immigration, among other things.

What fun politics is! 😦 This is my first year to vote, and I have to say I’m not thrilled with any of the choices!

Let us pray… :gopray2:

How can you be “too Consititutional”? I’m for disbanding the Dept of Education as well…what a waste of $$$ this has been and our schools have gotten worse.

I’m not for the repeal of the voting rights act. Not sure about the disbanding the Energy Dept–will have to read more 1st.

I can never knowingly vote for a pro-abortion candidate. If there’s no candidate I feel I can vote for I can always cast a write-in vote. This way I exercise my right to vote and don’t break with Church teaching.

My concern is that if the pro choice republican candidate wins in this case, it may open the door for other republican candidates to run on this pro abortion platform.

I still think the best message to send is to defeat her. Not good in the short term, but need to send that message loud and clear or the republican pro life support could erode.

The United States has a secret ballot.

Let your conscience be your guide.

Don’t tell anyone who you voted for it’s not our business.

I was faced with the same situation in a senatorial election in Texas. I declined to vote. I will not vote for somebody who does not respect life. No exceptions, no excuses, no rationalizations.

Definitely–a call or a letter will speak strongly. I mailed a note back last time I got a request from the Republican Party for contributions. I just said that I won’t give until the Party official advocates the Civil Rights of unborn babies.

Peace.

Not voting for either one is a no vote for the one least likely to win–that’s the practicality of it. If the Republican candidate is the least likely to win, your write in vote or third party vote would also defeat her. Jesus told us to be as wise as serpents but as harmless as doves, so I vote for the person that most closely matches the full teaching of the Church (not letting myself be bamboozled by talking points or rhetoric, but after looking at the facts).

Write yourself in.

I think there is another candidate petitioning to be on the ballot in Nov. I can’t remember his name, but I think he’s pro-life. I also will not cast a vote for Topinka.

When you look at the percentages the majority of the votes, in total went to pro-life candidates. We should have rallied around one and she would have been beaten.

I will also not vote for her. I haven’t decided how to handle it, but I was sick at the outcome. We should have all rallied around a prolife candidate. I personally wanted the one that came in second.

Bravo my friend, Bravo!!! :clapping:

If a candidate who supported terrorism asked for your vote, would you say, “I disagree with you on terrorism but where do you stand on other issues…taxes for example”… I seriously doubt it. You would know in your heart that this candidate would be disqualified ( by way of you not voting for him or her ) for any public office they seek. You would not vote for this candidate and you would not recommend to others.

As far as the post by b_justb “Don’t tell anyone who you voted for, its not our business”
 I totally disagree. It is our business when it concerns life.

**We as Catholics are obligated to carry out the pro-life message by way of voting for the right candidate. We are also obligated to reach out to our brothers and sisters and help them make the right decision about life issues, because this involves everyones future. By having an attitude that “its not our business” is how this country got in this shameful mess in the first place. **

Somewhere along the line we have got to talk about it and take action on the pro-life issues and vote accordingly to ensure that we have pro-life candidates serving our nation and protecting our unborn.

Just take a look at the Planned Parenthood website. They constantly rally and tell people which candidates are pro-abortion (pro-choice) and who to vote for.

**Why can’t we as Pro-Life Catholics be so bold???:banghead: **

**It is our responsibility to tell each other who the right candidates are. VOTE FOR LIFE first and foremost.:clapping: **
