A Modest Proposal
By: Shibboleth

There are many talks today about the fact that illegal migrant workers are a necessary evil of America. The migrant worker from Mexico fills a necessary roll because they are willing to do jobs that the average civilized white American just does not have the time to complete themselves. Certainly Americans a too busy eating large portions of food and engaging in unnecessary wars to concern themselves with such matters.

In addition, migrant workers are not bound by the despotic American wage laws and are allowed to accept wages at any level they desire. This allows not only for the migrant worker to have freedom of such wage constraints but it also allows the employer to stay viable in a world market where countries like China extend the freedom to their people to accept wages as low as $.50 a day!

It is my proposal that instead of the encouragement to beak laws and to discriminate against those good minority Americans that would like to have an equal opportunity is to pass laws that allow Legal Latino Americans to negotiate any wage they wish without the despotic minimum wage laws that Big Government uses to keep otherwise apt workers from attaining jobs.

Because the white American does not have the same difficulty of attaining jobs it would be unfair to issue this same privilege of ignoring the minimum wage. To stay in line with affirmative action an employer would be more willing to give a minority person an opportunity at a job if that minority worker could have the freedom to outbid a white person on cost of service.

This would be a good step stopping discrimination against minority citizens of America. It is my hope that in the future minorities will be able to negotiate situations where they wouldn’t even have to accept any money payment at all. They could do this by signing a contract that states for such and such amount of years the worker would be required to remain under the employer and could simply receive in return for services a small house to live in on the farm and 1 to 2 solid meals a day. The amount of meals and the size would of course be negotiable.

This would be doubly beneficial if one could use the same situation to work off an existing debt.

If one looks at the statistics it is evident that the African American has had a significantly higher unemployment rate since the end of the Civil War. We are moving in the wrong direction.

This discrimination by wage needs to stop today!!!

The basic problem is with the underlying assumption that Americans are unwilling to do menial jobs. Check out this article from the National Review Online (hardly a left-wing rag). Most of the stereotypically “illegal immigrant” jobs are overwhelmingly done either by Americans or legal immigrants. Frm the article:

President George Bush, a strong supporter of the guest-worker program, has long said that “family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande.” We are supposed to believe, however, that the work ethic does stop there — it is only south of it that people can be found who are willing to work in construction, landscaping and agricultural jobs. So, without importing those people into our labor market, these jobs would go unfilled, disrupting the economy (and creating an epidemic of unkempt lawns in Southern California). This is sheer nonsense. According to a new survey by the Pew Hispanic Center, illegals make up 24 percent of workers in agriculture, 17 percent in cleaning, 14 percent in construction, and 12 percent in food production. So 86 percent of construction workers, for instance, are either legal immigrants or Americans, despite the fact that this is one of the alleged categories of untouchable jobs.

Oddly, the people who warn that without millions of cheap, unskilled Mexican laborers, this country would face economic disaster are pro-business libertarians. They believe in the power of the market to handle anything — except a slightly tighter labor market for unskilled workers. But the free market would inevitably adjust, with higher wages or technological innovation.
Um, I believe that businesses are already taking advantage of this by shipping jobs to China and other jobs with equally low wages.

Maybe you should hit the campaign trail with your proposal 😃

I didn’t say that American’s didn’t want to do these jobs. I said that the white American just doesn’t have the time…

Yes it was a joke… or at least a satire along the lines of Swift’s Modest Proposal
