This is the first time my wife and I are experiencing our return to fertility after the birth of our son. He was born 4 months ago, and my wife had her first AF about 25 days ago. She has had a pretty classic Phase I and we are currently in Phase II, but its lasting pretty long.

I was wondering if anyone had any charts that they could show me with their first cycles PP that can give me something to reference. I know Phase II can be long and Phase III can be short, but I have nothing to compare.

Recently she has had very fertile CM for about 6 or 7 days now, usually her mucas patch is 5 days and we see a temp shift, but this time around we’re not seeing a temp shift.

Any anecdotes, to help me out? Thanks for the advice and support. This is a very challenging time for us right now as we are TTA.

I wish that I could help! Our son is almost 8 months old and AF arrived after just 3 months while exclusively breastfeeding! (no fair!) I just started charting again and I have found that although I am having a period, I am not ovulating. I had a great fertile patch, but I have not a a temp rise! I had the pre-O temp dip - but my body is struggling to release that egg. It took us over 2 years to concieve our son, so we are not going to try to prevent - we are letting God do what he thinks is best. If I am not ovulating, I guess this is His way of telling me that He is not ready for us to have #2 quite yet. I have to remember to be patient! I am sorry that I couldn’t be more helpful!:o

Ahh… the joys of pp charting!
Sounds to be expected, IMO… Those first few cycles can be WAY out of whack!

From my own personal experience… my first cycles would be all over the place… from just 20 days long… to as long as 58 days! And Phase II can vary along with that. Sometimes it was shorter than normal before my temp rise, sometimes much much longer… and on some rare occassions I wouldn’t get a temp rise at all… suggesting I wasn’t actually ovulating that cycle (even though the mucous signs suggested I was).

It can take 6-8 months to really settle out… so expect the unexpected, and take conservative precautions (if you’re trying to wait)… but things will settle out eventually.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any other specific questions! I’ve been through this twice now!

Yes, we are experiencing those pains right now. The situation now is that my wife had a good period (normal for her) and then had about a 5-7 day mucas patch with her cervix rising and opening, then we’ve had a normal 3 day dry up followed by the cervix closing. The only thing is she has no temp rise. This is her first full cycle pp so I am thinking she is having an anovulatory cycle. I mean if we were practicing creighton or mucas only methods we would have started phase III today but because we are using the ST method and we didn’t get a temp rise, we basically have to wait another full cycle. Its pretty rediculous in my opinion.

You’re waiting a full cycle before having marital relations?
Is this because you’re being extra cautious/conservative or because that’s how you were taught the ST-method?

Just curious… because I know our ST classes (we used a generic text… not the CCL one) probably focused more on the mucous symptoms and how to read the difference between fertile and non-fertile patches… and specifically a lot of info on the cervical changes… as soon as it wasn’t “fertile” we were to consider it “phase III”

because we are being very conservative, we are very seriously trying to avoid. But because if we base our chart on mucas patterns we are safe tomorrow, but at the same time my wife could potentially have a double mucas patch, although she has never had one of those since we’ve started charting (>2 years). So I mean honestly, I would say we are safe, but at the same time you never know, especially PP.
