My husband and I were married outside the Catholic faith due to his previous marriage. A few years later, his previous marriage was annulled by the Church. Unfortunately, around the same time, I discoverd my husband was unfaithful. We went to a marriage counselor but I soon found out that he continued to be unfaithful. He’s also been dishonest regarding money and has not been able to hold down a job since we’ve been married.

At this point, I feel it would be a mockery to have this marriage blessed. We are trying to maintain a civil relationship for the sake of our son but we no longer live as “man and wife”. I have pretty much given up hope that things will change.

My faith as been a source of strength through all of this. I would like to receive communion again. Since we have a chaste relationship, would it be a sin to receive?

I think you need to talk to a priest on this one. Even though you live a chaste life…your situation could be considered (by some) a possible scandal to the faithful if you were to receive.

Make an appointment with a good orthodox priest and talk about it.
