Is the Saturday evening Mass on March 25 the Mass of the Annunciation or of Sunday?

If Mass for the Annunciation is only early in the day, don’t forget to set your alarm and pick up a bunch of flowers on the way to early morning Mass 👍 You might get two bunches (and two vases) or two plants, one to place in front of a statue of Jesus if there is one and one in front of the Blessed Virgin’s statue. If you get there early enough, you might ask the priest-celebrant to lead the congregation in a suitable hymn – Marian or Christmas (Venite Adoramus).

Saturday evening Mass is the vigil Mass for Sunday, March 26.

The Mass for the Annunciation will take place on March 25, but before the Vigil Mass. Probably, the last Mass for the Annunciation would be celebrated at 12 Noon, for those parishes that have a daily Mass on Saturday.

And don’t forget, we genuflect during the Creed at the “…was born of the Virgin Mary and became Man”.

And it’s a Solemnity, which is outside of Lent, so the Gloria is to be said\sung

Thank you for adding that, Brendan! I had forgotten - shame on me.

My favorite day on the Church calendar is the Feast (Solemnity) of the Annunciation.

***Ave Maria,
gratia plena,
Dominus tecum.

Once again, the priest remembered to say the Gloria, but not the Credo, I HATE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT! The Credo is supposed to be said on Solemnities, I even went to a different church this time because the one I usually go to doesn’t say the Credo on Solemnities and I was already to genuflect. :banghead:

Dude, remember what your signature says.

Our church did not celebrate the Annunciation. I was all set for the readings and they did the Mass for the 4th Sunday of Lent. Did anyone else run into that this weekend? I was really mystified as to why they didn’t celebrate it. They didn’t even mention it in the bulletin.

The Annunciation was Saturday and that is when the readings were at our church. I know that our parish priest was dissappointed in the turn out.

edited for clarification

I went to Saturday Moning Mass

the USCCB listed the Annunciation as being on Saturday.

You went to the vigil Mass, I presume, since the Annunciation was yesterday. . .

Well, the “Catholic Calendar” web site does indeed give the readings for the Annunciation… . for Saturday Mass, but a Mass on Saturday does not necessarily mean a vigil Mass. Masses said earlier than 4:00 are not vigil Masses.

Various church sites that I saw had say a 9:00 a.m. Saturday Mass that was for the Annunciation, and a 4:00 p.m. Mass that was the vigil for the Sunday mass.

If you went to a Mass earlier than 4:00 p.m. and the readings were for the Sunday Mass, I should think you had grounds for a discussion with your priest. If it was 4:00 p.m. or later, then I do believe that the vigil for Sunday would take precedence over the Solemnity. If I recall correctly, last year the Annunciation took place on Good Friday and was transferred to April 4, 2005 (the first day after Easter), so Good Friday obviously took precedence over the Feast of the Annunciation them. Shook me up, though. I’m glad it doesn’t happen all that often.

You say it wasn’t in the bulletin. . .that is very sad. I have to say that some sites I googled did not list it either. Maybe for next year some people in your parish could get together and ask Father to remember the intentions of the people of the parish for the Mass for the Feast of the Annunciation IN a Mass. . .then it would be listed in the bulletin.

There’s no reason why it wouldn’t have been on Saturday this year. Unfortunately I was working on Saturday and due to lack of priests or lack of enthusiasm on the part of those we do have, there wasn’t a nearby Saturday morning mass that I could attend.

Does anyone else have this problem (few Saturday morning masses) and do they find it as annoying as I do?

We celebrated the Annunciation on Saturday with the Mass at 11:00 AM…
