Hello all,

I looking for some information regarding the Apocrypha and support/reasoning for the inclusion of the Apocrypha. It is my understanding that there were two “Old Testaments” a Hebrew Version which did include these books and the other version, the Jewish “accepted” version that did not. How did the Catholic church come to make the decision that these too should be included in the Bible as inspired works?

Thanks

The deuterocanonical books (apocrypha) have been part of the Catholic Bible since the beginning of Church history. These books were removed from the Protestant Bible, for doctrinal reasons, during the Reformation. For more on this see our tract Old Testament Canon and the Catholic Encyclopedia article Canon of the Holy Scriptures.
