On commentary this morning, one good point was raised, it’s illegal to conceal crimes. Regardless of their nature.

This will open a few floodgates now.

Why the leniency and the privilege of home detention when he should surely be in jail as anyone else would be?

I’m not too sure, but it could be the fact that he is physically quite ill. He always requires help walking these days and it doesn’t look like he can support himself standing for long periods of time, which might have been taken into account by the Judge.

Not sure whether it’s true or not, but I read that he was quite happy to continue his role as archbishop for quite some time prior to this trial.

The other issue I read in the media is why isn’t the church sacking him as archbishop.

That’s true, he only stepped down from his administrative roles when he was convicted. Many Catholics here are wondering now if he will resign. Last I head was that he is considering it.

This archbishop did nothing compared to what Cardinal McCarrick did…and he is still a cardinal. If the pope decides to force out this archbishop, one would hope McCarrick would lose his red hat the same day.

Good for him. Questionable “evidence”; charges from when he wasn’t even a bishop; a climate of absolute witch hunts in that country to the point of daring to question the sanctity of the Confessional. The Left has run amok for a long time in Oz.

The archbishop still covered up a matter that should have been handed to civic authorities according to the court. That’s a problem too. People have been sentenced to jail for such cover-ups in other cases.
