Authority ?

To my knowledge the only difference between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church is the view on authority and the Seat of Peter. Both the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church can claim a direct line back to the Apostles.

They both have and hold the same sacraments.

Is it a sin then if one does not recognize the Church as the supreme Authority on earth and the seat of Peter as the Head Bishop of the Church?

It could be. If the authority that God has given the church through the seat of Peter is denied, one may be in jeopardy of denying God’s authority. If Jesus prayed for unity at the last supper, and one is content to promote schism, one may be in danger of defying the will of God.

If a person knows or ought to know that Peter’s seat is the authority, and they deny it out of obstinance or hardness of heart, then it would be a sin.

But wouldnt it be a sin no matter what, meaning its in the bible, and in the oral tradition of the apostles therefore specifically within the Orthodox Church it is a sin but not a mortal sin because they do not know better?

And you are right that if one preaches against the authority while knowing we hold the authority he or they or that Church is committing a Mortal Sin.
