trying to find an answer for this woman. any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

“My husband and I went through RCIA classes when I was pregnant with my DD who is now 15 months. We were unable to do the rite of acceptance last year or this year, due to family illness. I want to get all three of my children baptized in the Catholic Faith. Do I need to do the Rite of Acceptance before I can do so, or can I have them baptized in the mean time. I am waiting for things to still go through for me on an annulment from my previous husband. Any information would be greatly appreciated.”

That would very much be a pastoral question. She needs to speak with the pastor at the parish they are attending and will be going through RCIA. She speaks of the “Rite of Acceptance” so I assume that she is not Baptized herself. If she was unable for legit reasons to attend the Rite last year, why was it not offered to her at a later time? The Rite of Acceptance is not specifically limited to being celebrated once a year. An annulment would not necessarly prevent someone from going through the Rite of Acceptance or Welcome.

Nothing specific prohibits the children from being Baptized because the parents have not completed RCIA, it’s the pastors decision.

this person does need to see her pastor and get straight about the whole RCIA process. no she should not be admitted to the catechumenate until the annulment issue is settled, which is not to say she cannot continue to attend the classes. She definitely cannot participate in the right of Election unless there is no barrier to her reception in the Church at Easter. There is no reason to delay the baptism of children under catechetical age (about 7). The older children can go through RCIA and be baptized when they are ready, even if the parent is not ready at Easter.
