Is baptism a sacriment or is it considered a ritual . some teach that it is needed fo salvation others say no! so what is the churches position?
There are several current threads on this topic. I recommend that you open the “search” and type the word “baptism”.Is baptism a sacriment or is it considered a ritual . some teach that it is needed fo salvation others say no! so what is the churches position?
There are no Sacred Traditions, Rites, or other practices related to the sacraments where there is not “a spiritual thing going on”. The procedure or “rite” (ritual) being devoid of spiritual power is a protestant misconception of what ritual means. A ritual is a procedure that is followed which has been instituted by Christ, and handed down in this format since the time of the Apostles. Jesus taught us to baptize “in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”, so this is part of the ritual of baptism. There are other essential elements as well, such as the person calling upon the name of the Lord. The Church is not permitted to baptize without a profession of faith.what I meant by ritual was tradition. rite, or is there a spiritual thing going on. regeneration of the man at the moment a person calls on the name of the Lord he is saved. so is baptism a part of that or is it just pomp. ( just trying to get it) is baptism a seal of the deal?

We are Regenerated in Baptism not by calling on the name of the Lord. (excepting Baptism of Desire as a special circumstance) Baptism is a Sacrament, it is celebrated usually within a Ritual or Rite.what I meant by ritual was tradition. rite, or is there a spiritual thing going on. regeneration of the man at the moment a person calls on the name of the Lord he is saved. so is baptism a part of that or is it just pomp. Baptism is required for salvation, definitely. It is not the only requirement, of course - there are many requirements. But it is the first step on the journey towards Heaven, and without that first step, we can’t take any of the others. Is baptism a sacriment or is it considered a ritual . some teach that it is needed fo salvation others say no! so what is the churches position?
