I write a prayer letter that is emailed to people around the world every week. A couple of weeks ago one of my readers said that there is no point in having article blessed as that only encourages superstition. What is the stand on this? I have my own opinion but want to know what to say about it. The subject came up when we were talking about blessing homes and wearing blessed medals, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Joan

Sorry but what exactly is being blessed? The email??

An unblessed item (medal, scapular, etc.) is merely that – an inanimated object.

However, when that item has been blessed, while the blessed object does not of itself give grace, it does PREPARE us to receive actual graces. Additionally, blessed objects help us to receive forgiveness of our venial sins, which are less serious offenses against the law of God. Also, blessed objects obtain for us the forgiveness of the punishment we deserve for our sins. Finally, blessed objects obtain for us health of body and other blessings that we need in our daily life and protect us from the power of the devil and temptations to do evil.

Thistle,

I apologize for the confusion. I intended to say blessed articles, i.e. statues, medals, rosaries, etc. However, I DO quite often bless the email before I send it out. And I certainly ask for guidance while I’m writing it.

Thanks,

Joan

Sir Knight,

Thank you so much for your answer. I will pass your reply on to the people that need it.

I tried clicking on the link in your message, but it didn’t connect to anything.

hehheeeehheheehe,
I took this the same way! Your reader is misinformed. Blessings on any item helps us to receive the graces intended by that item…my favorite is my medjugorrie wood rosary blessed by Pope JPII that my mom’s boss (an absolutely wonderful nun) sent me.

That’s odd. It’s working for me. It’s a link to where you can buy that book online.

This is the exact words of our blessed mother said on the 18/7/85.
I beg you to put more blessed objects in your homes and let every person carry blessed objects on himself, let everything be blessed so that satan will tempt you less because you are armed against him. 👍

Where did our Blessed Mother make this statement on 18/7/85?
