Can someone tell me where to find - or perhaps a good historian can do it via this thread - a concise summary of why we know there was only one Church before the split in 1054 (is this now the Eastern Orthodox Church?), why the split occurred, and then the same thing in regard to the Reformation?
I thought I would find something on this in the CA Library but couldn’t.

A friend of mine told me that the Baptist church was founded in 40 A.D. (even if it was true - which I know it isn’t - it would still be about 7 years younger than the Catholic Church…😃 ) and would like to be able to give him a brief history of the ‘Church’.

Thank you!

On the history of the Church: Brief, no. Good, yes. Dr. Warren Carroll’s series on Christendom.

Brief on the Reformation: How The Reformation Happened & Characters Of The Reformation by Hillaire Belloc.

There is a book called A Concise History of the Catholic Church… I have an old copy circa 1970 but I’ve seen newer versions in bookstores. Honestly can’t vouch for accuracy of this one, as it’s been 20 years since I’ve read it.
