They’re demanding a specific apology to Canadian residential schools victims by the Pope while physically in Canada.
The local churches involved, as far as I know, have already apologized and continue to work diligently at reconciliation efforts. I’m not sure why Pope Francis needs to be involved so directly.

He expressed personal sorrow, he didn’t issue an apology on behalf of the entire Church as Pope Francis did in Ireland.Didn’t Pope Benedict already issue an apology?
That said, I think the situation in Ireland and the situation in Canada were quite different from each other even if the effects on many people were the same.
