Does anyone know where on the web I can go to find charted out the various religions…what split off from what and when each of them started?

I know there is such a thing out there. I simply don’t know where to go and find it.

Thank you very much for your time.

Christian religions (see this, or this , but neither one is totally accurate; I would suggest going to the Christian section in Barnes and Nobles), or all religions?

Thanks to both of you. These (particularly the one from St. Charles Borromeo’s site) are exactly what I was seeking.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Dear Figment713:

So you actually were not looking or not interested in knowing various religions but rather looking for how many denominations, sects and cults are within the Christiandom?

Just in case if you misunderstood your own Opening Post, here is a link:

bbc.co.uk/worldservice/people/features/world_religions/

Under Christianity it says:

There are 6 million **active Christians ** in the UK, but over 35 million in Britain would regard themselves as nominally Christian.

There are many different variations or “denominations”. The major division is between Orthodox and Western Christianity (which itself is divided into Roman Catholicism and Protestantism).

From the beginning, Christianity has sought to convert people, however, many Christians today feel there should still be respect for what is good and true in other cultures and religions.

And under Islam it says:

“Islam” is an Arabic word which means surrendering oneself to the will of God, and achieving peace and security by doing so.

A person surrenders to the will of Allah by living and thinking in the way Allah has instructed.

Islam is more than a system of belief. The faith provides a social and legal system and governs things like family life, law and order, ethics, dress, and cleanliness, as well as religious ritual and observance.

and:

The countries with the largest Islamic populations are in Asia rather than the Middle-East.

These are Indonesia (170 million), Pakistan (136 million), Bangladesh (105 million), and India (103 million).

“Along with his friend G. K. Chesterton, Hilaire Belloc was one of the great Catholic writers in Britain during the first half of the twentieth century. This article is condensed from a much longer essay contained in his book The Great Heresies (available from Catholic Answers). It was written in March 1936.”

Dear Eden:

What Hilaire Belloc says in his/her article is his/her opinion ONLY and not necessarily a fact in all other intelligent truth seeking peoples’ eyes unless if you consider the rest of the world out of their mind people.

From your logic (of Hilaire Belloc), all those Jews’s opinions too are right about the origins of Christianity thus the very central figure, Christ, will become a heretic, let alone all those who percieve him differently.

Are you then prepare/ready to take the opinions of all those Jews in the same fashion as your Hilaire Belloc is suggesting by not contradicting your own adopted “logic/premise”?

So, I hope by now you realise the clear flaw in your reasoning by posting a link to such ridiculous non-sense article.

The site you cited says this about the Catholic Church:
The Roman Catholic Church
It is the largest of the Christian denominations, with approaching a billion members.
Its origins are from the Western church of the Middle Ages.
Anyone with even a bit of historical understanding knows that this is untrue.

How is your article not someone’s opinion?

Your last two links don’t work.
