There is snow on the ground in Maine and the temperatures are plummeting. This is where Mr Chavez is launching his latest front in his cold war against the president of the United States.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img...bc.co.uk/nol/shared/img/v3/start_quote_rb.gif I think that from the point of view of [Chavez’s] cash flow it is peanuts… From the point of view of his political agenda, it is gold http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/img/v3/end_quote_rb.gif
Prof Ricardo Hausman
An oil tanker reverses into the driveway of a modest clapperboard home, a sign that the Hugo Chavez road show has arrived in New England.
It is delivering cut-price heating fuel from Citgo, a company wholly owned by the Venezuelan government. Mr Chavez is pumping goodwill as well as the oil into the homes of thousands of needy Americans.
What do you make of this? I think it’s great that Chavez is doing it, even though I don’t think it will have the great effect he thinks it will. I mean really, what is he going to accomplish?

Even though some politicians are helping implement the charity, I doubt they will align themselves that closely with Chavez’s government or political views.

Hugo Chavez provides aid and comfort to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, a Marxist terrorist cocaine trafficking bunch of thugs who blow up bridges, powere stations and commit kidnapings for profit.

Hugo Chavez is the main reason for the meteoric rise in the price of oil from about $11 per barrell in early 1999 to today’s price.

You want to thank Chavez? Contact Cindy Sheehan. She will put you in touch with El Pendejo.

Sorry guys, I disagree. If he is willing to give free gas to people, fine with me.

There are no free lunches? Really? So if I buy a free lunch for someone who is truly needy, it’s not free for them?

What about the recipients of the gas? Do you think someone who is needy in Iraq should refuse our charity, because they don’t like our president?

Again, it does nothing to change my attitude about Chavez or his politics, and I don’t think too many politicians will ally with him because of it. It won’t have the effect he thinks it will have.

Chavez gives American’s cheap oil. What does he want in return?

Who cares? If we don’t give him anything, he won’t get anything.

He’ll get good will from the people who he gave the oil to. Maybe political clout. Maybe more.

And who cares? I care. He has pretty much declared war on us.

Maybe. So, have we stopped buying oil from him? Have we stopped all business dealings with his country?

I’d rather give Chavez good will for cheap oil, then get Indias mangos for our bomb technology.

Yes…we all give something to get something. Bush got us mangos…

Or an ally with the world’s largest democracy.

Our nuclear technology isn’t going to go to their bombs but to their nuclear power plants. Thanks to Bush and his diplomacy, they finally separated their civilian and military nuclear programs. With a country the size of India, wouldn’t you rather have them as a friend when 75% of them like America?

P.S. This thread isn’t about India, but Chavez.

Really? I haven’t seen the data to support this argument.

Can you provide evidence to back up this assertion? I would prefer real economic data, if that’s possible.
