Yeah this is exactly why the Vatican should not be making a deal with the Communist Party of China. What China wants is another state organ of propaganda. This will not save souls. For example, can you imagine the state-sanctioned “Catholic Church” in China protesting and resisting the One Child Policy? I can’t. In fact I’d imagine they would explain away why this was actually a good. Anything less would be foreign influence…

“The goal of this plan is to eliminate “foreign influence” and to ensure governmental control of all religious activities, . .”

Obviously “foreign control” in this case refers to papal authority or magisterial authority of any Vatican office, leaving control in the hands of the Chinese communist government.

It is worth noting, however, that recent government litigation in the U.S. And the UK also tend toward vesting control of religion in the government, threatening religious freedom. Witness the attempted contraception mandate to the Little Sisters of the Poor and vairious bakery and florist cases.

After the disgusting events of foreign invasion due to Western Imperialism and colonialism, it’s hardly surprising that the pendulum has swung too far the other way now. Ironically it is at the hands of Christians that have indirectly caused this. Something which Christians should reflect on.

Yeah those evil Christians. I hear Hong Kong is the worst city in China.

Yeah it will be if the people in Hong Kong continue to ruin it. China doesn’t need to do a thing and it’s already self destructing.

The main point is not so much that China wants to do this but that the Vatican is trending towards unifying the underground Church and the “People’” church. This article shows that that is a bad move.

I don’t recall the Christians in Rome making a deal with the Emperor to modify their teachings in exchange for not being thrown to the lions.
