Christian traditions, but little faith
The majority of the Norwegian people celebrate Christmas, but six of ten do not characterize themselves as Christians or believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God.
Even though Norway has a Lutheran state church, the majority of the population do not believe in the Gospel and Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
A new poll conducted by Visendi AS on behalf of the Norwegian paper Dagsavisen indicates that almost three in ten do not believe Jesus to be the Son of God, and an additional three of ten doubt it or do not have an opinion on the matter. However, only about five percent state that they are atheists. Most Norwegians have apparently decided it is best to question. Four in ten state that they believe in our Saviour and Creator.
In spite of these numbers, Bishop Finn Wagle is pleased.
«I view this as glad tidings because there are many who say that they believe Jesus is the Son of God,» said Bishop Finn Wagle in Trondheim, to the paper.
The numbers indicate that 1.3 million Norwegians between the age of 16 and 80 believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and another 700,000 visit the Norwegian churches during the Christmas holiday.
