When I recieved my Holy Confirmation I was an idiot essentially. I was in a state of mortal sin (serious blasphemy, borderline apostasy, and a whole lot more). I knew this and I went with confirmation anyway, because at the time I didn’t care. I was an unrepentant sinner and I was aware of my sins and their gravity. So I am assuming my Confimation was not valid. Is there anything I can do to remedy this great evil?

The validity of your reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation was not dependent on your state of sinfulness at the time.

You received the Sacrament of Confirmation, however you received no Sacramental Grace by receiving the Sacrament.

to remedy the situation you need to go to Confession and make sure that you confess the Sacrilege committed by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation knowingly in a state of Mortal Sin and of course anything else that need confessing. Once you are restored to Sanctifying Grace the Sacramental Grace of Confirmation will be received.

My, God, me too! I was in your same situation. I recieved my Confirmation in 1991, at age 18. I understand that to receive a Sacrament in mortal sin is a sacrilege, I think I did that. What’s worse, why did the VINCENTIAN pastor NOT require us all to go to Confession BEFORE Confirmation, isn’t this a requirement? The same for couples who marry in the church? I heard a Pastor say that he would marry a couple in his parish ONLY if they went to confession IN THE PARISH THE SAME DAY THEY GET MARRIED, I.E. BE THERE EARLY. HE SAYS HE WON’T MARRY A COUPLE OR GIRL WHO HAD STRIPPERS, IN THIS BRIDAL XXX PARTIES, ETC, SAME FOR THE GUY. AND HE SAYS THAT’S THE DANGER OF NOT CONFESSING THEM THE SAME DAY.

My CCD program was a joke. We didn’t learn a single thing about Catholicism. We just had “ice-breakers” and other lame attempts at fun. The people who ran it had good intentions, but the program was bogus. All the kids who came dressed like thugs or whores. They wore hats in Church, blasphemed in CCD and on retreats, ect. It was a joke. We were not required to go to confession before Confirmation, just “recommended”.

I think the same thing happened to me. Actually I don’t really remember on whether I was in a state of grace or not. I guess I’ll confess next Saturday anyways, just to be sure (I go to weekly Confession).

Fellas! Remember, if you forgot to confess it, it’s still forgiven- Just be sure to mention it next time in your regularly scheduled confession. Try not to scrupe out on this.

The Church strongly suggests that any one receiving a Sacrament, except for adult Baptism go to Confession within a few days of receiving the Sacrament if they are aware of any Mortal sin. Confession is a private Sacrament, you can go to Confession and no one but you can know that you did. So even if this pastor were to ask the bride or groom; “did you go to confession?” It would be in their right to say; “It’s none of your business”

For a variety of stupid reasons, my husband and I did not go to Confession before our marriage. I was worried for a long time that this had made our marriage invalid. When I finally confessed this and asked my preist, he basically said what Br. Rich said
"The validity of your reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation was not dependent on your state of sinfulness at the time.

So get yourdelf to confession and if youare sorry (which it sound like you are) all will be forgiven!👍
