I’ve had the pleasure of knowing a delightful Catholic woman for several months. This summer, we took the step toward dating. We are both divorced, and both of our marriages were found null by the tribunal. I was not blessed with children, but she’s been blessed with several. We have been careful as to the involvement of her kids in our relationship, but it has evolved to the point where we are attending family functions together. Her children have taken a liking to me, and have even invited me to their events.
This weekend, we drove to a family event 2 hours away. At some point during the drive, my friend reached out to hold my hand. This, along with other things that happened (her father introduced me as her “boyfriend”, etc.) changed her kids’ demeanor for the rest of the afternoon.
My question is if anyone has any reading recommendations rooted in our faith that would help me navigate this situation with compassion and understanding. I’m not a father, and not a child of divorce…so I’m learning on the fly.
I’ve been praying to the greatest stepfather in history (St. Joseph) for guidance and intercession.
Thanks in advance.
