Very Possible. I work within this area of Computing myself. Entire cities and countries could go down because of hacking and similar attacks
Yep especially now smart-viruses are being design now (such as Stuxnet) to attack specific applications silently.

they could have done it for a while now. The question you should ask yourself is why haven’t they? Fear of retaliation or wanting to help society and not hurt it? I find it strange that the best hackers in the world call themselves activists or “hacktivists”.

US warning reflects fears of Iranian cyberattack
Panetta’s unusually strong comments Thursday came as former U.S. government officials and cybersecurity experts said the U.S. believes Iranian-based hackers were responsible for cyberattacks that devastated computer systems of Persian Gulf oil and gas companies.
Unencumbered by diplomatic or economic ties that restrain other nations from direct conflict with the U.S., Iran is an unpredictable foe that national security experts contend is not only capable but willing to use a sophisticated computer-based attack.
Panetta made it clear that the military is ready to retaliate — though he didn’t say how — if it believes the nation is threatened by a cyberattack, and he made it evident that the U.S. would consider a preemptive strike.

A virus, suspected of Iranian origin recently wiped out 30,000 (yes, thirty thousand) computers at the Saudi oil company Aramco,. Additional damage was done to the Qatari natural gas company RasGas. All data on the affected computers were overwritten and crucial system files were replaced with the image of a burning US flag.

Fear not ladies and gentlemen. We have the hacker terrorist group Anonymous fighting for our internet rights. The internet is their life. They won’t let anything take out our web connection.

Yes they could have done it a long time ago, but why would they not do it? No one really knows, but it is my theory that the best of the best are never seen, and do not act until they think it is necessary. I just imagine that it might be inconvienient for them as well, if they simply caused the world around them to be crumbling in chaos. I don’t think any one appreciates chaos around them if it is not necessary, and expecially if they have no motive to do it. I wouldn’t say the best hackers are hacktivists, they are simply thought of, as being “the best” because of the way they are advertised. The “best” will never be found or known.

Stick around the forums please. Great post. I still chose to believe it is out of good will though.

Thank you, I do intend to be on the forum. It is nice to think of it as being out of “good will”, but I tell myself that I can never really be sure.
