Marquette is traditionally a Catholic university in Milwaukee Wisconsin, founded by the Jesuit order.

“To Charla Replogle, a sophomore at Marquette who identifies as queer, the prom means a lot.”

“Replogle said Pride Prom is a great opportunity for queer students to be themselves.”

TFP Student Action, a national group saying it promotes traditional Christian values, said the university shouldn’t “legitimize lifestyles that deeply offend God,” calling the event “morally unacceptable.”

As a proud Marquette alum, I could not be more delighted to see the university standing by Pride Prom.
As someone who would like to see Catholic schools actually act Catholic, I find this comment to be dismaying.

Finding a Catholic university which actually promotes Catholic belief and behavior in its students is getting to be more difficult all the time.

I’m more dismayed about the rising tutition costs all across the country.

Seems like folks would do better and better to avoid college entirely, as it appears to have become a hotbed for fringe-left indoctrination. Trade school all the way.

I don’t understand how rash judgement would come into play? Not why “inclusion” needs to be to permit something which cannot have a good end (the goal type of end, not the finish type).

Thanks for your reply.

From the NCR article:

“Marquette strives at every level to foster a culture of inclusion, which means we are a community that respects, welcomes and promotes a sense of belonging. We support our LGBT community in ways that are both pastoral and educational, recognizing that they have an important voice that we must include in our conversations,” the university said.

I suppose that supporting diversity is something that is de rigueur on college campuses. Still, one might hope that a Catholic university would strive to include Catholicism in its mission.
