Folks it is late and I am too lazy to look for myself. In conversation with Baptist coworker and she said Moses was killed by Jesus??? Never heard this before. What gives here?

Thanks

Eric

Uhhhhhhhhh, NO!!!

God told Moses he wouldn’t live to cross into the Promised Land because of his disobedience in striking the rock to produce water.

Moses lived to be 120 years old, if I’m correct. I don’t think Jesus was anywhere near the scene of the crime, but maybe there was a Jehovah’s witness nearby (I’m sorry, bad pun).

Notworthy

Deut 32:48: And the LORD said to Moses that very day, 49: “Ascend this mountain of the Ab’arim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Jericho; and view the land of Canaan, which I give to the people of Israel for a possession; 50: and die on the mountain which you ascend, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered to his people; 51: because you broke faith with me in the midst of the people of Israel at the waters of Mer’i-bath-ka’desh, in the wilderness of Zin; because you did not revere me as holy in the midst of the people of Israel. 52: For you shall see the land before you; but you shall not go there, into the land which I give to the people of Israel.”
What gives here?
Sola Scriptura gives

She’s just a bit mixed up. Moses died in what, 1250 BC?
That’s a little bit before Jesus’ time. GOD himself buried Moses, which is probably where she get’s the idea Jesus was involved.:

Deut 34:
*1
Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, the headland of Pisgah which faces Jericho, and the LORD showed him all the land-Gilead, and as far as Dan,
2
all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea,
3
the Negeb, the circuit of the Jordan with the lowlands at Jericho, city of palms, and as far as Zoar.
4
The LORD then said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants. I have let you feast your eyes upon it, but you shall not cross over.”
5
So there, in the land of Moab, Moses, the servant of the LORD, died as the LORD had said;
6
and he was buried in the ravine opposite Beth-peor in the land of Moab, but to this day no one knows the place of his burial. *

Just FYI---- just before his death, Moses said:

*15
"A prophet like me will the LORD, your God, raise up for you from among your own kinsmen; to him you shall listen.
16
This is exactly what you requested of the LORD, your God, at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let us not again hear the voice of the LORD, our God, nor see this great fire any more, lest we die.’
17
And the LORD said to me, 'This was well said.
18
I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kinsmen, and will put my words into his mouth; he shall tell them all that I command him.
19
If any man will not listen to my words which he speaks in my name, I myself will make him answer for it
. *

Which Jesus is speaking about while in the temple in John 5:
  • 43
I came in the name of my Father, but you do not accept me; yet if another comes in his own name, you will accept him.
    44
How can you believe, when you accept praise from one another and do not seek the praise that comes from the only God?
    45
Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father: the one who will accuse you is Moses, in whom you have placed your hope.
    46
For if you had believed Moses, you would have believed me, because he wrote about me.
    47
But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?" *

I think maybe your friend was speaking figuratively and meant that the Old Covenant of Moses has been made obselete by the New Covenant of Jesus Christ or something like that.

My coworker miss spoke about Jesus killing Moses. Found that out when I ask about it this morning.

She meant to say Jesus buried Moses. How does that suit you?

Thanks
Eric

Technically, since Jesus is God, and because of Adams’ sin, we’re all going to die, you could say that Jesus killed everyone who has died as punishment for Adam’s sin.

After Moses died, they buried him. It is very likely that Moses’ aide, Joshua the son of Nun, was among the burial party. Afterwards, Joshua the son of Nun led the chosen people into the Promised Land. Joshua and Jesus, in the Hebrew, are the same name. Perhaps your friend has confused Joshua, the son of Nun and aide to Moses, with the our Lord Jesus Christ because they have the same Hebrew name. ???
