For at least ten years I have been asking for the academic credentials of Arthur Zannoni, a man who speaks on Scripture in the St. Paul/Mpls area. I never can get any information, but now he is coming to my parish as “Dr” Artuhur Zannoni having picked up a doctorate somewhere! Does anyone know anything about this man other than the usual statements that he speaks all over on this subject, has written books and is a scholar?

Is he self-taught?

Anna,

If he is coming to your parish, he was evidently invited by somebody. Why not just ask a friendly question to the person who invited him?

I did a quick Google search and turned up a rather serious bibliography on him.

I’ll probably have to do that.

Would it be possible for you to give me that link? My Googling only gives me the “same old, same old” over and over again.
If I want to know what qualifies him to lecture on Scripture, the answer always is, “Oh, he lectures on Scripture many places.”
Or, if I ask what qualifies him to write on Scripture, it’s the same thing. “Oh, he’s written books on Scripture.” I have wondered about this man for at least 10 years, but this is the first time I really need an answer!

Thanks for taking the time for something that is probably really boring for you! 🙂

Anna,

Sorry, I must have been unclear. I didn’t get a single “serious bibliography” link; I got a whole lot of links to what appear to be scholarly books with various co-authors. (The comment about judging a book by its cover is appropriate here.) I didn’t find anything about his qualifications to write these books or give lectures.

I would just go ahead and ask the person who invited him. As part of introducing a speaker the introducer frequently gives a brief biography which includes “studied … at … for … years.” If you get the same old “has written many books” from the inviter I would go ahead and ask point blank for the man’s qualifications. If he has them there shouldn’t be any trouble in getting them.

Thanks, Liberian. That’s just what I’ll do if I don’t get any valid info anywhere else.
