It’s not in the rubrics and, frankly, what purpose would it serve? A blessing before receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus? Isn’t this a matter of messing up the perspective of what’s important?
I wouldn’t see it as a matter of messing up the perspective. Rather, a reiteration of the perspective being made out. Without the Passion of Christ, the Eucharist would not have its efficacious power; hence, the reinforcement of the sign of the CROSS.
