ST. LOUIS, MO, October 4, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com)—Last week, a federal district judge in Missouri dismissed a case against the HHS mandate, ruling that forcing Catholics to pay for contraception and abortion-inducing drugs does not violate their faith, because they remain “free to exercise their religion, by not using contraceptives.”

“To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Most bad government has grown out of too much government. An elective despotism was not the government we fought for.
.” -Thomas Jefferson

Gee I love the Catholic Church. It seems were always battling with people going against our beliefs. Though it gets annoying that the world disagrees, it makes me love the faith more. We must pray that people will see the truth and stand up for it

The Catholic Church is the only thing that keeps man from being a victim of the current age. GKC

I love this quote!

Like all Essenes, I’m a vegetarian. I feel that if the government cannot force a Catholic business to pay for birth control on religious grounds (assuming this gets overturned on appeal), then I should not have pay tax money for beef, pork, dairy, and egg subsidies due to my religious beliefs. This has the potential to open up a whole new world. 🙂

I don’t think that judge really knows what the HHS Mandate is about and what issues Catholics really have against it.

Catholics need to be praying more than ever as we are in a spiritual battle. I’m serious. It isn’t just political , underneath everything it is spiritual & prayer for our country is so important…pray asking our Blessed Mother for her intercession.

Concurrence. In the end this is what will win **if **we cooperate.

This justice knows very well what is going on. He takes his actions from Obama's handlers. Since day one of his time in office P.O. has tried as hard as he can to get rid of the Catholic Church, and wisely chose to hide his beliefs under laws that would be broad and sweeping. He wants to weaken all of us & then take us down community by community. Obama is part of the evil agenda of the old Liar. We were warned by Christ that these things would happen, that we'd be persecuted & done away with.

Pray that we'd be strengthened by frequent reception of the sacraments, pray the rosary in Church in groups, if possible. And remember that in the end, God wins, no matter what happens. And pray, Pray, PRAY!. Our angels will be with us, as well as Christ, in the form of the Holy Spirit. This is not a time for weakness, even if all you are able to do is pray. All action by us who may act is necessarily under-girded by much prayer! The rosary is probably the best prayer for times of combat, for if it continues as it is, it is indeed combat we will be doing!

May God bless us all with conviction & the courage to work hard to keep the Church alive, especially in times like these.
God love us all protect us as we fight for Him!
Love in JMJ,
Deb E.

I agree that the judge is not unaware of the circumstances. I also don’t think we should reley on the court to overturn this. It is going to come to prayer, action and possibly civil disobediance.
And Jala, personally I agree you should not have to pay the subsidies 😉

This attorney seems pretty confident that it will be overturned by the appeals court

From the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church:

c. **The right to resist **

**400. **Recognizing that natural law is the basis for and places limits on positive law means admitting that it is legitimate to resist authority should it violate in a serious or repeated manner the essential principles of natural law. Saint Thomas Aquinas writes that “one is obliged to obey … insofar as it is required by the order of justice”.[823] Natural law is therefore the basis of the right to resistance.
There can be many different concrete ways this right may be exercised; there are also many different ends that may be pursued. Resistance to authority is meant to attest to the validity of a different way of looking at things, whether the intent is to achieve partial change, for example, modifying certain laws, or to fight for a radical change in the situation.

**401. *The Church’s social doctrine indicates the criteria for exercising the right to resistance: “Armed resistance to oppression by political authority is not legitimate, unless all the following conditions are met: 1) there is certain, grave and prolonged violation of fundamental rights, 2) all other means of redress have been exhausted, 3) such resistance will not provoke worse disorders, 4) there is well-founded hope of success; and 5) it is impossible reasonably to foresee any better solution”.[824] Recourse to arms is seen as an extreme remedy for putting an end to a “manifest, long-standing tyranny which would do great damage to fundamental personal rights and dangerous harm to the common good of the country”.[825] The gravity of the danger that recourse to violence entails today makes it preferable in any case that passive resistance *be practised, which is “a way more conformable to moral principles and having no less prospects for success”.[826]

Wow, Catholic conspiracy theories. Great. You realize how absurd this is, right? Obama is trying to get rid of the Catholic Church? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Something like 25% of Americans identify themselves as Catholics. Half or more of them support Obama.

This is, of course, a very much intended tax on those Catholics (and some others) who do not follow Obama’s pagan mandate and mores. In Muslim countries, they call it the “Jizya”, the tax on being an “infidel”.

Interestingly, when some of the formerly Christian countries were overrun by the Muslims hundreds of years ago, some so despised their previous (Byzantine, largely) rulers, and saw so little hazard in it, that they did not have a serious problem with paying the the “Jizya”. Ultimately, of course, it (and harsher penalities later) resulted in the virtual elimination of Christianity in the Middle East and North Africa.

Perhaps the Obama “Jizya” will stamp out Christian mores in the U.S. and perhaps it won’t. One prays that Obama is not re-elected. If he imposes the Jizya while running for office, he will surely be much worse if he no longer has to run.

Comparing the HHS mandate to Jizya is absurd. LOL, the church doesn’t pay taxes. Most Catholics are not opposed to birth control. And they aren’t even making churches provide birth control.

Everything is an attack on the Catholic faith to you people. Do you know what a real attack on the Catholic faith would be? If Catholics were openly discriminated against when trying to find a job or when shopping. If Catholics were beaten up for being Catholic or even killed. If Catholic churches were being burned or vandalized on a large scale. If these things were occurring then there would be an attack on the Catholic Church…and maybe these types of things are happening in other places, but not in America. But the government telling people that they can’t restrict the health care they give their employees because of moral qualms with certain medications is not an attack on the Church. If anything, restricting medications that is covered on your health plan is an attack on your employees that don’t follow the same moral system as you.

If a fortune 500 company CEO converted to some form of Christianity that believed in faith healing and took away health insurance from all his employees because he didn’t believe in it, should that be legal? Of course not. And Catholics trying to take birth control out of their insurance are doing the same thing. Despite what people say on here, birth control IS medicine and preventing pregnancy is a medical issue.

In your own comments you site statistics that show Obama has already split the Church in half. Right now it is salvageable, in time who knows; I trust in what Jesus said, “The gates of the netherworld will not prevail against My Church.” Obama and his “team” know if they split the Church, divide and conquer, they have won. Simple as that, the Catholic Church has ended, or at least has been a major part in ending, all the past socialists regimes. Obama is going at this the right way, destroy the Church, and destroy the enemy. How do you destroy the enemy, “A divided house cannot stand?”

This weekend’s Gospel reading is on Mark’s teachings about divorce. The main line to seize upon is this, “Because of the hardness of your hearts He wrote you this commandment.”

It is because of the hardness of our hearts that we do not properly form our conscience thinking to the teachings of the Church as we are obliged. As Catholics it is our duty to study, learn and follow the teachings. But instead we, because of the hardness of heart hold on to our own ideas of truth.

“Well I am a liberal/conservative, you pick which, and the Church is not accepting my faith.” Guess what, praise God, because if She would take our faith as truth, truth itself would be destroyed, at best as it is right now, truth is crippled by our own doing in not following the Church.

It’s time for us to look back to Mother Church and bury our ideas of truth; She holds all truth not us. This judge has no idea how silly her ruling appears when applied to Church teaching, it is of no consequence to her. It is very possible and probable, this unjust ruling and many more will in the end, stand. It has been the history of the Church, governments and entities do everything to divide Her.

I’m sorry, am I missing something here? In 2008 were all Catholics in agreement on issues of birth control and gay marriage? Did Obama sway the numbers in a huge way? No, of course not. The church being split on which candidate to vote for, birth control, and gay marriage are in no way related to Obama.

Most Catholics don’t view the church as 100% authoritative. I read about a study recently that said something like 87% of Catholic Americans believed you didn’t have to be in line with church teaching 100% (sorry, I don’t have a link to the article).

Obama does not want to divide the church other than he wants Catholics to vote for him. But in the same way you could say Romney wants to divide the church in the same way. What would Obama or any politician gain from breaking up the Catholic church in America? Absolutely nothing.

If Catholics start getting fed to the lions again, I will concede and say that Catholics are under attack. I’m pretty sure that isn’t going to happen though.

So are you saying that a fortune 500 corporation doesn’t have the right to not provide health care? They should be mandated by the government to provide it? No matter what the reason for not providing the coverage? Wow, where have we gone.

A private company is just that, a private company. If I choose to provide food coverage to my 200 employees, but only meat because I don’t believe in vegetarianism, you would want the government to demand that I provide veggies? Please remember when answering that providing food to employees and their families is not required, it’s a benefit I offer.

Well, does the HHS mandate proscribe a -]fine/-], or a penalty, or errrr…

I don’t understand this logic. How is a forced violation of the tenets of my faith anything but an attack on my faith?

🤷

You use inverted logic. Health plans are part of a compensation package, which in a free market, would be up to the employee to take into consideration when accepting a job.

The Sandra Flukes of the world have concluded that the most urgent need facing the Brokest Nation in History is for someone else to pay for the contraception of 30-year-old children.

Hooray!
