Just heard this recently, a new term perhaps?

Pronounced “Fee-day-Foe-be-a”

Means: An irrational fear or hatred of faith and/or people of faith.

Interesting.

Good word. 👍
However, it could be confused with “fetaphobia” an irrational fear of the unborn.

I’ve never heard the term before, but I think it fits. I know of at least one otherwise rational woman who practically foams at the mouth whenever she encounters a Christian. She goes out of her way to search out negative news stories involving Christians just so she can justify her irrational hatred. I used to get angy with her, but now I really just pity her and pray for her heart to be softened.

I thought it was an irrational phobia of cheese, not to be confused with an otherwise rational phobia of cheese. 🤓

The only thing that surprises me in what you said is that you only know one person.

lol

Does anyone know if this fear is contagious?

Wow, looking at these forums I could NEVER guess why she might be afraid

Yes, thankfully, I don’t know too many people like that. In the case of this particular woman, she had a very bad childhood in a family that was very active in a church of the Nazarene. This particular group was apparently extremely fundamentalist, and wasted no opportunity to tell her that she was damned to hell every time she broke one of their rules. Unfortunately, rather than deal with this particular church group (and by extension, her abusive family), she has extrapolated her personal experience to all of Christianity. She now hates all of us collectively. She will admit, however, that there are a “few” Christians who are good people, so maybe the more she meets and interacts with, the more opportunity the Holy Spirit will have to work in her life.

As for it being contagious, I don’t know if the hatred and fear breed more of the same, or if it is just that like-minded people seek one another out and feed off their own hatred and fear.

If indeed it’s ‘irrational’ 🙂

:rotfl:

Although, seeing as how phobias are given Greek names (arachnophobia, xenophobia, argophobia, etc.), it really should be something like “pistophobia”… since, apparently, “pistis” means “faith/belief”. Just a thought. 😉
