I had a request a few weeks ago, when I reposted my Getting the Most out of Mass one, to do one for Confession. So I did.

Read “Getting the Most out of Confession”.

Let me know what you think, corrections needed, additional good questions on confession to answer and so on.

Good and succint.

May want to consider a list of the seven deadly sins:
Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Pride, Anger, Lust and Sloth for consideration in conscience examination.

May want a link to the 10 commandments (I may have missed it if it’s there.)

FAQs on scrupulosity, presumption acedia, etc., may be helpful - I’m not sure.

Pax te cum

You know, maybe a FAQ on the 5 sins that cry to heaven would be useful:
(1) Wilful murder [Gen. 4:10]

(2) The sin of the Sodomites, [Gen. 18:20; 19:13]

(3) The cry of the people oppressed [Ex. 3:7-10]

(4) The cry of the foreigner, the widow and the orphan, [Ex. 20:20-22] and

(5) Injustice to the wage earner. [Deut. 24:14-5; Jas. 5:4]

So much is made about homosexuality, but 3, 4, & 5, especially, are in the ame boat and rarely mentioned. Americans in particular need to consider 3,4,& 5 - as well as 1 and 2.

Well, as a returned Catholic having had a rather culturally conditioned life, I honestly can’t think of anything to say as often as once a month. I suspect there is plenty, but since I got rid of the biggies (I hope), I am mystified at how often some very holy people seem to go to Confession. Maybe some help with that. I have heard other people say something similar. We can’t broadcast that problem, tho, because it sounds holier than thou.

This is why good examinations of conscience help a lot. There are many lists of sins, both committed and not committed, that you can use during one if you need them.
