if the parents of your godchildren left the church to attend another one? What would you feel your obligation was?

**I am not a Godparent, but if I were, I would feel that my obligation would be to be the best example of a Catholic as possible. **

You cannot do something with your Godchildren that the parents won’t allow…and, if you get pushy, they may cut off all contact.

There will come a time when the children are adults and making ther own decisions where your example could be what leads them back to the faith. Then you can be there for them in any way they need you to be.

Until then all you can do is pray!

The parents are open to the children deciding to attend the Catholic church when they are older.

That’s encouraging. Keep praying for them. Be a good example and don’t stress over anything that is beyond your control.

I think the best you can probably do for a while is to pray and to be the best example of a CATHOLIC Christian that you can be.

I don’t know why the parents left the Catholic Church. Probably they think something is missing or they saw something they didn’t like. You may not be able to show the parents the error or their ways but perhaps you can be the example of what’s right about the Catholic Church.

Well, if the parents are open to sending their kids to a Catholic school when they are older, are they open to you giving the kids books about the Catholic Church, saints, prayer books, bringing them to Mass, Catholic youth groups NOW?

I would do everything that I could to influence the children within the boundaries that the parents set. If the parents aren’t open to anything until the children are older, then I agree with pp who say live the best Catholic life that you can, and pray. OH - And get in a story here or there about a heroic person…“and oh by the way that person is Saint So-and-So.”
