Help needed

I got this e-mail from a friend and I thought I would get the wonderful people here to help out:

My nephew is a fourth grade student . One of his required assignments is to participate in the History Fair.

One of the topics that is on the History Fair list and that he chose is “Vatican II: Taking a Stand for Religious Reform” As proud I am that he is displaying his faith… I am having a hard time finding articles and readings that he would understand.

I am asking any of you if you know of any good simple and clean cut resources for this topic. I found one on www.christusrex.com and a great article from the Texas Catholic.

I subscribe to Our Sunday Visitor and they recently (within the last six months or so) had one of their special section articles on Vatican II. Perhaps you could contact them and see if you could get the article or if it’s online.

Do you have a goo Catholic bookstore near you? Surely they could suggest something. I would also look in other sections of this CA website–they have many resources and publications.

I gotta say that I am WAY impressed that a 4th grader is going for that topic. Check out an encyclopedia at your local library. They should have a pretty basic version to look at.
 
But take wikipedia with a largish grain of salt. Since “anybody” can edit it, it is not as reliable as “source documents” might be. Actually, my library had a book which contained all the Vatican II documents (16 if memory serves) so a good library might have it, or be able to get it.

What about the Vatican website itself? I’d try there:

I looked on the Vatican website and they had some wonderful articles that seemed pretty easy to read although I think his mom and aunt will have to help him understand some of it. Plus it is from the Vatican so it is a very good source.

I was also impressed when my friend wrote to me for help that #1 this was a topic to chose from at this school (and a public school at that, I guess they all haven’t gone mad yet) and #2 that he wanted to do a topic this difficult. I see there is definate hope for our future (ok I am only 26 and I am talking like I am 90… although to a 4th grader anything over 18 is probably old :))
