I am in England and Corpus Christi was celebrated on Thursday. I missed it, so as it is a Holy Day of Obligation I should go to confession, but I’m going to Scotland for weekend, where Corpus Christi is kept on Sunday (as in USA).

Should I go to confession on Saturday to a Scottish priest and tell him that I have missed Mass on Corpus Christi, when he will tell me that it is on Sunday?

Over to you.

An interesting problem. First of all listen to your conscience. If that doesn’t help I would say the fact that you will attend on Sunday is sufficent to meet the obligation. In your case, it is almost like an anticipatory Mass. Though all the circumstances are known to you. Such as why you didn’t go Thursday etc.

If you do confess it, your conscience will be clear, and the priest will tell you for your penence to go to Mass on Sunday if he considers it a sin at all…

My understanding is that you are bound by the Church Law where you reside. So if the Feast of Corpus Christi is a Holy Day of Obligation in England and that is where you live, then deliberately missing Mass needs to be confessed. If you missed through no fault of your own, then there is no sin.

If you confess in Scotland, simply tell the circumstances to the priest. He will certainly guide you.

Do both Confession and Holy Mass. No big deal, God is merciful to those who are contrite. 😃

Ask yourself why you missed it. Did you not go with complete knowledge, and still choose not to go? Did you think well I’ll just go on Sunday when in Scotland, but now feel guilty for that choice? I think you need to examine the reasons why you missed it, and then if the guilt is still there, go to confession. Going to confesssion can never hurt. Not going can have eternal consequences.

And then thank God that you have the opportunity to celebrate His Holy Day despite the failings of not going the first time!:o
God Bless

Try not to miss it this year! It’s coming up… mark your calendars!
