Capsaicin, which makes peppers hot, can cause prostate cancer cells to kill themselves, U.S. and Japanese researchers said on Wednesday. …

While it is far easier to cure cancer in mice infected with human tumors than it is in human beings, the findings suggest a possible future treatment. They also may offer a good excuse for men who like spicy food to eat more of it.

Can’t speak for the rest of the world, but if the article is true, we shouldn’t have much problems down here in cayenne land. Unfortunately, we do.

The above title is also a link. Once you get to the article you will have to skim read down to the part which talks about the performance of turmeric in cancer studies.
The anticancer potential of curcumin stems from its ability to suppress proliferation of a wide variety of tumor cells, down-regulate transcription factors NF-kappa B, AP-1 and Egr-1; down-regulate the expression of COX2, LOX, NOS, MMP-9, uPA, TNF, chemokines, cell surface adhesion molecules and cyclin D1; down-regulate growth factor receptors (such as EGFR and HER2); and inhibit the activity of c-Jun N-terminal kinase, protein tyrosine kinases and protein serine/threonine kinases."

In their latest of a series of reports the M. D. Anderson say: “Curcumin can suppress tumor initiation, promotion and metastasis. Pharmacologically, curcumin has been found to be safe. Human clinical trials indicated no dose-limiting toxicity when administered at doses up to 10 g/day. All of these studies suggest that curcumin has enormous potential in the prevention and therapy of cancer.”

].
Some researchers say curcumin inhibits angiogenesis, i.e. formation of new blood vessels, which tumors use to nourish themselves as they spread (Mol Med 1998 Jun;4(6):376-83). As an anti-inflammatory, turmeric triggers heat-shock stress response (see Wiki Online Encyclopedia for heat-shock). Heat shock proteins stimulate the immune system.
Whatever anybody decides to do, please see your doctor first.

TURMERIC is not cheap. Mccormick sells a little bottle for almost $6 in super market

If I am remembering correctly, both Edgar Cayce, and Padre Pio, ate large amounts of hot peppers that cured both of them from a disease that would have eventually killed them. I believe in both cases, it was a severe case of stomach ailments.

I wouldn’t believe anything near to Edgar Cayce… but I can believe Saint Pio.

And people said I was an evil child because I used to take hot peppers from my mother’s garden, go into rest rooms and rub them on the toilet paper.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon10.gif
