You are in the pits of despair, or angry, or hurting so much that it all seems overwhelming. How do you pray when all you can do is feel, when you just sit in bed with a box of Kleenex and cry and scream in emotional pain? How do you find the words when there are none? When you are so angry at God because you are hurting and can’t take it anymore?

you sit in bed with a box of kleenex and cry and scream in emotional pain. that is prayer. you yell at God - that is what the Psalmist did many times. that is prayer. when you have no words the Holy Spirit prays for you “with inexpressible groanings”. You live through the pain. that is prayer. you blame God. That is prayer. Job did it, David did it, Moses did it. You ask God to take the pain away. that is prayer. Jesus did it. Somehow God will give you strength to deal with whatever it is, and somehow God will bring good out of your suffering. It happened for Job, for David, for Moses and for Jesus, it will happen for you.

God bless you in your pain and sorrow and hurt.

You don’t need a whole lot of “words” to pray in a situation like this. Your life can be a prayer. Your pain and suffering are prayers if you can somehow either form the words, or will them in your heart , “thy will be done”. . .if even those few can’t be managed all He needs from you is a “yes”–a yes even to suffering, a bow of the head that while you can’t understand your pain and feel deep anger you still say, you still are WILLING to be, “yes” to Him.

The whole Body of Christ is joined to you in your sorrow–all us on earth, all those in heaven, and above all your dear Savior who Himself felt pain, and sorrow, and anguish, and who understands you and loves you more than His life. We unite in begging Him for mercy, for guidance, for solace, for counsel, for His peace, for you.

You will be in my prayers for a Novena of Divine Mercy starting this very day.

May Mary, our Mother, and St. Joseph, whose feast we celebrate tomorrow, hold you in their loving embrace presenting you and your sorrow and need to our dear Savior Jesus.

I finally figured it out. I am reliving a trauma I had years ago. I guess you could say it’s a living nightmare. It has been posioning my life for years and it is affecting everything I do.

I just want it to end. God is showing me what is wrong and what to do about it. But it hurts like anything.

Have you EVER had a rough time with God and NOT come out of it better than you were before?

He is putting you through trials to nourish your soul.

In Christ.

Um, no, I haven’t. Dang good point. It’s just the waiting is hard when I hurt so much.

Thank you, and tantum ergo, and puzzleannie for your prayers and advice.

The problem with the Christian life is that God does not leave us alone, he wants to move us along a road to perfection. And that means that every once in awhile, he decides it’s time to clean out some area that He has left alone till now, but when he starts stirring up the dust and digging through the mess, it hurts like heck! But it has to be done, if we are going to continue down that road. He is a good Father, He cannot leave us with garbage piling up in our corners. But removing garbage that has started sticking to the floors and walls can be painful. And He doesn’t enjoy our pain, he feels it along with us. How many times did we hear our parents say, “this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you” and we didn’t think that was even a possibility? But it is with God. You are not suffering alone.

Hang in there! You will be so much happier in the long run without all that gabbage in the corners! And when you are cleaned up a bit, you will be able to pass on words of comfort to someone else who you see going through that painful process that you will recognize so well!

So in the meantime, go ahead and cry. Tell Him it hurts. Tell Him your not happy about it. But know He will see you through it all!

God Bless Mom of one. I will say a prayer for you! :gopray2:

Bless you, Mom of One. This past year has contained much suffering for me. There were many times when I couldn’t articulate the smallest prayer. I learned that it was OK to just sit and moan… just let all my emotions out.

God knows us better than we know ourselves, and He knows when we want to pray even if we can’t form words.

This goes for better times too, by the way—sometimes when I’m on cloud nine and want to thank God and say I love Him, but I can’t think of any words, I just smile a big goofy smile, and I know He understands that too. 😃

The Lord is with you. He will sustain you. My thoughts and prayers are with you too!

In addition to crying and sitting with a box of kleenex (or my shirt sleeve) I am greatly consoled after I have offered my sorrows to God. Recently after much distress I realized that I need not suffer needlessly and during much sadness I said, "Lord, please take my sorrows and use them to comfort someone who is suffering more than I. I offer up my sorrows and tears to you to do as you will. " This is what I had done a few days ago when I was extremely distressed. Offer all that you have to God, and know that God does not want you to suffer needlessly. Offer your sorrows to God for the intentions of another, for the reparation of your sins or for something that brings greater good in the world. God bless.
