Recently, I joined another political forum and tried to defend the faith but got shut down. I need help with this one

VRor…this just shows how little you know about the Catholic Church. Oh yeah, it’s nice to see how you know if I have been to a mass before. I would like to feel you in on something. I have been to masses…my wife was a Catholic. I went carrying my Bible and you know…I was the ONLY one that had a Bible, other than the priest. So how would ANYONE know if he was filling your head with garbage.

The Catholic church DOES pray to saints…when you say, “Oh Mary full of grace…etc, etc” you are praying to her. You should only pray to Jesus for Mary was just a human…while she was the mother of Jesus when He came to earth, she deserves no high place in comparison to Jesus. Neither does your claimed first “pope”…Peter. Peter would be appalled at how you all slander his name.

And about judging you…I never judged you, Jesus does the judging…I am simply going off of His Word…the Bible…but, again, I love it how you think people that speak against the Catholic church are “judging” you all. Get real!

But I don’t know what version of the Catholic church you follow, but the Roman Catholic church is apostate. If that bothers you, then so be it…I will not apologize for showing you the truth.

Have you ever read the part of Revelation where Jesus is saying “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins” (Rev. 18:4)…many feel that He is talking directly to the Catholic church.

Look, I USED to think that Catholics were Christians…but after Jesus woke me up and showed me the way via His Word…I know now that the Catholic church is an apostate, idolatrous mess that has so many people with a false sense of salvation.

But could you answer “yes” to my three questions?

How to help with this one?

Honestly, I was ready to give up Christianity after reading that.

Anyone?

You’re gonna have to be a bit patient for an answer. It will come. Trust me. That is a lot to answer.

Those are the typical attacks by Protestants on the Church. Easily DEBUNKED.

Acutally, a moderator told people to stop bashing Catholics. It seems like he didn’t even bother trying to figure out what I was saying.

Sorry about being impatient, I got really sad from seeing bigotry (but it’s not hatred in their eyes). I don’t think Jesus would approve of it.

Well you can do a search. These topics have been covered dozens of times.

Here is one to start you off with.

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=100206&highlight=Praying+Saints

Praying to saints
-When we pray to saints we are asking for their intercession - we are asking them to pray for us. It’s just like how St. Paul used to ask his fellow Christians to pray for him. How can the saints hear our prayers? Because God allows them to.

Judging
-If you accused him of judging you, we’d have to see what basis you had for that to see who’s right. Just don’t worry about this bit, he’s just defending himself and I dunno who is right.

Carrying a bible in Church
-The missal gives the reference for the scripture readings so if anyone doubts that what is read in the readings actually is from the bible they can look it up later. If he’s saying that what the priest said in the homily is not from the bible, well duh! Hasn’t he ever been to a talk or seminar before where people explain things in their own words (and the audience can take it or leave it based on their own judgment?) This point is trash.

Church being apostate / revelations thing
-He has no evidence to back this up. It’s purely speculation on his part and happens to be wrong.

This guy is full of garbage, don’t let him get to you.

I know sometimes we feel like giving up Christianity when people say all this trash to us (has happened to me) - you’ve just got to be strong and get through it. I did. Have some faith - you know that the CC is right and that he is wrong. Gates of hell aren’t gonna prevail against it. If he is right that Catholics are not Christians then that means that the gates of hell have prevailed against the Church and that means that what Jesus said is wrong. Who do you believe, this crackpot or Jesus?

I like the warning window 😃 . It is very clever! :rotfl:

You have to laugh (if it weren’t so sad). I love the bible to church thing. I wonder what all those people did before the age of the printing press? (or you could always send him a MagnifiKid 👍 )

Revelation :nope: Another guy reading the words in scripture without understanding one word in it. Beware those who are outwardly pious but inside are empty, his tassel is long, phylactery secure.

He has no idea what the word apostasy means, go look it up to see how much smoke this guy is blowing. In order to be an apostate you would first have to believe in something (in this case Christ) then no longer believe in him. For example Hebrews, this is exactly what is being addressed. Jews were abandoning Christ in whom they believed and reverting back to traditional Judaism.

Wipe the dust from your feet. People with hardened hearts cannot listen to the word of God, they have closed themselves off. Read what scripture says about useless debates and take your cue from there. They bear no fruit.

Peace and God Bless
Nicene

As do I! Can you turn it into something I can save an image of, or is it copywrited? I would love to have it on a t-shirt!

You covered many points, and as another pointed out, all of these points have been addressed many times.

First question, did you join that forum to “straighten” these people out? The reason I ask is, it seems from the outside, you are looking for an argument. Not a real good way to spread the truth. It puts people on the defensive. His scattergun response is typical. If you’re going to defend the faith expect it, and don’t loose faith because of it. Let me try to demonstrate a non-confrontational approach on the Bible carrying point.

(My response would be) That’s wonderful that you came to Mass, but about carrying the Bible, the Catholic Church uses what’s called a lectionary, it’s a schedule of readings which are used in the liturgy daily. Use of the lectionary insures that EVERY word of the Bible is read and discussed. The Catholic Church publishes several lectionaries, the one I use is a two year cycle which basically corresponds to the lectionary use in daily Mass. Using this two year lectionary insures I read every word of the Bible over a two year period. I’d be thrilled to see your church’s lectionary, could you send me a copy? I’d love to share mine with you if you’d be interested in reading the whole Bible. How do you and your church insure ALL of the Bible is covered? By the way, you probably noticed a small paperback book in the seat, that is where the readings for the day, every day, are. They are quotes from the Bible, and no they are not garbage, check them out yourself. That’s why Catholics generally don’t carry their own Bible to Mass, it’s already there in a more convenient form. Generally, there are four “readings” at Mass EVERY day. The readings from the Bible include a reading from Psalms, the Old Testament, the New Testament (generally an epistle) and the gospel.

Of course we pray to saints, Holy Scripture tells us we should. Saints are not dead, far from being dead, they are more alive than you and I. That’s basic “if” you believe in the resurrection. Saints are in heaven, and are used by God. Why would you reject a gift from God? When Jesus met with Moses and Elijah during the transfiguration, was He meeting with two “dead” people? Of course not! Your point that “You should only pray to Jesus” is not true, and goes against Scripture. You might like to check out this web site, catholic.com there are excellent sources which will explain you many misconceptions.
Hey these are just my ideas, a little less confrontational, a little more friendly than the typical you’re wrong, no, you’re wrong argument.

Sub_Zero, from reading your post I am not sure if you are troubled by the content of what the poster had to say, or if you are troubled by the uncharitable manner he/she said it.

If the former, I think you need to do some reading. The wonderful people here on these forums can only help you so far. Reading, in the quite of your own room/study will enlighten you towards Truth.

Allow me to suggest Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn. Invest time outside of forums. One may get misled easily by some self professed expert.

If it’s the later, don’t trouble yourself too much. Many many people learn the ill of thier ways. Especially as they grow older and wiser. When a person comes across with such overwhelming egoism, it is usually because they question themself.

With the possible exception of Mohammad Ali of course 😉

Your response in not accurate. All of the Bible is not read at Mass. At best, Sunday Mass readings cover only about 14% of the Bible; Sunday and weekday Mass readings combined cover only about 30% of the Bible.

Yeah, here’s the link if you want to give me some help.

theamericanright.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3355&page=2 as well as the first page

It’s just I got sick of it being bashed all of the time, I guess I’m really liberal compared to them, I just feel it’s going to fall on deaf ears. I didn’t want to argue, I just wanted to show them how they had grave misunderstandings about us.

Tom, I’d like to know where it says we can pray to saints in Scripture. It just shows I’m not some idotic bible illiterate catholic in their eyes.

Reading his response made my blood boil and he thinks we bitch about it.

Not true, perhaps in one year, but over the entire length of the lectionary it covers all of the Bible. The one used for daily Mass is based on a two year cycle. The exceptions are feast days. If you attend Mass at a Catholic Church every day within three years you will have heard the entire Bible read.
