Greetings!
Thanks for all the good work you are doing on this forum. I kindly request for your advice. I’m 20yrs old, i completed my high school college studies in 2016 from a minor seminary where i was for two years only. I joined minor hoping that it would be easy for me to join major seminary when i receive a good recommendation to allow me continue, unfortunately I wasn’t allowed by my home diocese to join major seminary last year because my parents aren’t married in church, i was told to wait till they get married in church then I apply again which am not sure whether it will happen because my father isn’t willing because of his personal reasons he doesn’t talk about. So at the end of last year I decided to apply to another diocese to see whether they can allow me, i went and met up with the Vocations director and told him the whole story of mine and i also left him with my academic results, he showed some positivity and he was like I shall recommend you to the major seminary provided you bring

Saint Therese of Lisieux was taken by her father Louis to Rome, specifically to ask the Pope to allow her to enter the Carmelite Order in her mid-teens.
It would seem that she is a good person to intercede to God for you, as is her father Louis who is also a canonised Saint.
If it is God’s will, may God grant your request to enter the seminary.

May our Mother Mary pray for you and for those whose support is required for your entry.

Pray the rosary, mother Mary will lead you to the right vocation.

Remember the promises of the rosary? “Devotion to My Rosary is a great sign of predestination”.

Thank you very much,
May God bless you.

Dear JnKO5
I’m surprised that you were declined. Our parents behavior shouldn’t have a thing to do w it.
God, pls, help him to get into seminary. Help him to stay pure. “Thank you, Father.”.

i know a priest in my parish whose parents are divorced

i’ve never heard of this being an impediment, nor do i understand why it would be…

There is no reason your parent’s marital status should impact your vocation. Sounds like you have a Vocations Director whose collar is on too tight. Might be time to request a private meeting with the bishop to find out if he agrees with such “policy.” If not, ask for help. If so, move on. Other dioceses are looking for seminarians and this will not be an issue.

I wasn’t allowed by my home diocese to join major seminary last year because my parents aren’t married in church, i was told to wait till they get married in church then I apply again
Who told you this?

I don’t understand your story. I’m sorry but your parent marital status would not bear any judgement on your acceptance as a priest. Also, you ended your story mid-sentence. That said…
I am incredibly envious of your desire to become a priest. As a teenager I thought woman were everything, but after I read The confessions of St Augustine, I realized how beautiful the life of a priest is. A priest gets to see the happiest and sadest moments in all people’s lives, they get to see some of the greatest mystical moments in the world while others must take care of money and children. I think the shortage of priests is due to the fact that reading The confessions isn’t required in Catholic high schools. It should be.

I pray to God that he changes the situation.
Thank you!
God bless you.

Is this a prank? We don’t understand your story…Your parent marital status would not stop you becoming a priest…your not explaining your situation. You end mid sentence. 🤔

There are many religious orders whose primary charism includes parish ministry. Maybe you should investigate them. Or you could choose a diocese where you would really like to live. A warm climate? Near skiing? A rural setting? A major city? Another country?

In reality, the VD may have done you a great favor. Now you can choose the life that best suits you and brings you closer to God. A happy fulfilled priest makes for a happy parish.

At least, that is my $.02.

Ok, its like my home diocese every year has many candidates to join major seminary, so different methods are used to reduce on the number, though they don’t tell they look and see those without all the requirements needed. for me it was the marriage certificate of my parents which I didn’t have.

Thank you very much brother. I feel called to serve God as a diocesan priest in future, if i get any person to connect me to any diocese mainly in the continents of Europe, North America or Australia (English Speaking countries), I shall be grateful to serve God from there.
May God bless you always.

I am so sorry to hear that your parents would bare any weight on your faith or call to vocation. Does that mean that a convert or a foster child could not ever enter seminary?

Me too am a convert the year was 2007 with my younger brother, am praying to God that one day He sees me worthy
Thank you friend.
*Blessings
