What is the question? What does had a chance mean?

Simple … if you were about to be baptised and you were able to speak something to the congregation first, what would your words be?

As Catholics anyone who is baptized confesses their faith in Jesus with their mouth. In the case of infants as the new circumcision and we also believe only by Salvation by Gods Grace, we follow the faith of the Apostles and baptize babies, we also confess our belief in Jesus Christ afterward, when we are able to on our own.
Who is so evil as to keep babies away from the Church? We invite everyone to be part of the family of God, up until fairly recently with the rejection of infant Baptism, by some people starting their own Churches based on their own authority this was the normative Christian belief.

So adult baptisees get asked the same questions that those who have an infant baptised get to answer? That’s it?

Oh I would say renouncing Satan all his works and all his pomps and vowing to follow Christ and accepting him as your savior in front of the congregatiuon are pretty big deals, but that’s just me.

P. Do you renounce Satan?

P. And all his works?

P. And all his pomps?

P. Do you believe that there is only one God, the Creator, Preserver and Ruler of all things and the Father of all men?

P. Do you believe that this our God and Father is a just judge, Who rewards the good and punishes the wicked?

P. Do you believe that in one God there are three Divine Persons - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost?

P. Do you believe that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, Jesus Christ, was made man, was conceived of the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried, descended into hell, and on the third day rose aain from the dead, ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, and from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead?

P. Do you believe that the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, God the Holy Ghost, enables us to live and accomplish what is right and just, and that without His grace no one can be saved?

We also had an exorcism a few weeks ago as well.

Confessing Christ with the lips is paramount as part of the acceptance into the church.

In the case of children they are also asked if they are going to raise them in the catholic faith and you take a vow to do so. Vows and oaths before God are no small matter.

I thought you were catholic? Didn’t you have your children baptized?

Peace and God Bless

Yeah but it’s been a few years since I’ve seen an adult baptised…

It is something devoutly to be wished that homilies, mini-homilies, sermonettes, and statements be given only by the presiding priest at any sacramental function, including baptisms, weddings, and funerals.

Go to the Easter vigil at almost any Catholic parish–you’ll see lots.

This year at the EV our parish is baptising 30 adults (that I know of). 👍

Good Quote, that sounds exactly like what I said and my daughter when we baptized them last year. She was 5 and my other daughter was 3 at the time. We waited because we had only come back to the Church a month or so earlier and Calvary Chapel doesn’t baptize babies.
Now equating baptism to being part of a family why keep children from joining the family of God? We vow to raise them in the faith and once they get of age they also confess Him with their mouths each Sunday? This was the understanding that led me to baptize my kids.

God Bless

Since you earlier notified us that you are leaving the Catholic Church to “get a believer’s baptism in a church that does not weigh it’s members down with man-made rules that cannot be found in the Bible and legalism” you are now asking us to help you with some words as you do so???

I believe one word to use would be “hubris”.

I aslo thought the question was strange. She is leaving the Church and wants us to help her make a baptism speech at a non-Catholic Chuch!!

I was wondering the same exact thing…

When I was baptised I couldn’t speak.

But, if I was originally not Catholic, got converted into the Catholic Church, and was getting baptised, I would want to say “Thank you” to those who helped me come to the truth.

But, if I was in your situation, originally a Catholic, and then getting baptised in a non-Catholic church, I would say, “I confess to almighty God, and to (you here present / my brothers and sisters), that I have…” etc.

That wasn’t why I was asking. Never mind.

I was baptised this morning anyway by full immersion and it was beautiful…and no, I wasn’t planning to report on it because I didn’t think that was appropriate here. I had just come in to read before I got a PM and saw this.

Here’s a song I’d love to share with you. A lot of Catholic churches use this music too…
lyricsandsongs.com/song/561619.html

And what I said was simply, “I feel this is something the Lord is calling me to do so in obedience to that call, here I am”. And no, I didn’t have to say a thing because I wasn’t planning to. I’m not one to speak in front of a crowd but God gave me the grace.

I just wondered what others might say given the chance, wasn’t asking for help. I guess it’s time I find a more appropriate forum.

Your first baptism is still valid. You are welcome back in the Church at any time.

God bless 🙂

You mean one that excludes the Church that has the fullness of truth??
