I always thought is was silly to change the measurment of Indugences. Couldn’t the Church just have made it clear that the days and years didn’t mean you get that as time off in Pugatory but that it stood for penance equal to that amount of time?

Hmmm, I believe that is what we were taught as school kids.
And some people must not have listened. Then if a person reads Catholic publications, they would find it discussed in articles and Q and A’s.
I still find holy cards (new ones too not old vintage ones) that still have the older measurements for example I have one of St. Joseph that has 300 days indulgence after the prayer.
