Is a sin forgotten during confession forgiven?

I went to confession last week. As is normally the case, I examined my conscience carefully, then promptly forgot everything upon walking into the confessional.

I did the best that I could considering that my mind was drawing a blank, and I believe I made a good confession. But when I left the confessional, I realized that there was a sin (serious in nature) that I had forgotten to confess.

I do not wish to be scrupulous, but do have a question about this…was this unmentioned sin forgiven? Or do I need to go back and make certain to mention it?

Dear vz,

The sin was forgiven. But you do need to mention it the next time you go to Confession as an act of humility and as a deliberate acknowledgement of your sorrow.
