If so, why isn’t the world more peaceful, ordered, respected?

Is it because we all follow a different form of Christianity, which some forms can breed hatred from Christians and non Christians a like?

Call ourselves followers of Christ and then not see it through?

If we did follow Christ there would be much more peace and harmony.

I don’t think it is Christianity that breeds hate. Think of free-will. This plays a significant part in human behaviour.

It is the largest religion when you combine all the different sects/denominations.

I would imagine that the reason the world isn’t more peaceful, ordered, respectful is due to man’s disordered passions and concupiscence.

I agree that if we all followed Christ’s teachings the world would be a far better place. I was thinking the other day that if every person simply followed the 10 Commandments and the teachings of Christ, we would need no other laws. Every law we have on the books is meant to provide a secular rule and associated punishment for not following it due to the fact that people don’t follow God’s teachings.

Christianity is the largest. Catholicism the largest church.
My understanding is that Catholicism is about 50% of Christianity worldwide and non-Catholics are the other half. How you break that down is dependent upon a lot of factors.

Christianity is the largest faith in the world, with a plurality at about 31.5% (at least as of 2012; I don’t know of any newer statistics).

Yes, about 2.4 billion people worldwide are Christians. Around 50% belong to the Catholic Church.

However:
The expected growth of Islam around the world is perhaps the most striking finding in the recent Pew Research Center report projecting the future of religious groups. Indeed, Muslims will grow more than twice as fast as the overall world population between 2010 and 2050 and, in the second half of this century, will likely surpass Christians as the world’s largest religious group.

The world is generally much more peaceful because of Christianity. The lack of respect for Christ’s teachings is the cause of much of the conflict in the world.

As a whole I don’t think Christianity breeds hate, but there are some who profess to follow Christ but say and do the most hateful things to others.

Yes, this we use as an explaination for our failings, yet if we were doing it right, following the word, then we would have control over the disorders, and live in harmony.

We would need no prisons, but then we will always have people will mental problems, which I think do not need prisons, but obviously need hospitalized if they pose a danger to others or self.
Some “disorders” are deemed now to be “normal” we are getting better at seeing, yet we still hold back in loving others as Christ taught us to do.

Matthew 10:
34 Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. 35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And as a man’s enemies shall be they of his own household.

Many religions and spiritual teachers—and, um, long-haired pop singers—past and present try to spread the message of peace and love in the world and among the people. There was a lot of conflict before Jesus, and after.
Hopefully we can all pull together and keep going in a positive, peaceful direction.

.
Yes, Jesus did say there is no jew/gentle/slave or free…We are all the same to God, yet we have separated ours in a way with what we say we believe, that each belief system is better than the one before.
Can we achieve a peaceful harmony when one “side” thinks it’s better than the other? If people are spiritual then we should be able to look past our differences and get along, I mean this for all faiths and none.

Hi Simpleas!

I think it is because we are all subject to ingroup/outgroup thinking, and we also seek to punish what we see as wrongdoing. It is in our nature, and though we profess a faith, we are still subject to our nature. It takes awareness to be able to deal with our nature, and people are not born aware.

Yes, there would be complete peace and harmony if our following was perfect.

God Bless 🙂

Yes, but if we are to become aware we need to be taken out of our comfort zones, do you think people prefer to stay sort of, cocooned in their belief so that they do not need to include someone who is seen as a sinner?

Shouldn’t we be more aware after years and years of trying to follow Jesus’ teachings, surely this awareness must come at some point, but maybe only when people will let go of their fears?

Thanks

I can never make my mind up with this, Jesus says the above, yet he left us his peace, told us to love one another etc etc…

I do think that it is pointing to the idea that if there is no love and peace within a family, then the members of that family can’t bring love and peace into the world.

It takes two to tango. One can bring peace, but it does not ensure peace.

An individual that is shown love by those that are clothed with Christ, still can choose to not cooperate, and when doing so it is a choice opposing peace.

Such a statement contradicts the Teachings of Christ, who many times promised us that there would be conflict and adversarial experiences with our loved one’s, and the world. The best we can expect is that we will have inner harmony, harmony with Christ.
