Apple, Microsoft, Kraft Foods, General Mills, Starbucks, Home Depot, and many other companies support homosexuality. Would it be a sin to buy products from companies that support sin?

I’ve wondered about that myself, especially since the HHS and birthcontrol debacle. (I know I might be splitting hairs there). But if it is a sin, then we would have to step out of this world. Think about how many different artists/musicians/actors who live sinful lives, yet we still buy their CD’s, listen to their songs, etc,… Does that mean we support or condone their lifestyle?

(name removed by moderator)ut from those more grounded in the faith than I am would be helpful in this.

There is no sin involved, provided (IIRC) that you are not buying a particular product IN ORDER TO support that person’s behavior, etc. The main concern is whether or not the product in question is morally good or neutral. If it’s something like music with bad lyrics (which I myself have some of) then I’m pretty sure it comes down to your intention as to why you’re buying it. But as for what the person benefitting from your business would do with that money there’s no sin on your part. Your purchase and what they do with that money are two separate things. We really have no way of knowing where that money will go unless they explicitly state it.

I heard someone say that if we are to boycot a business because the owner CEO is furthering evil like abortion, same sex marriage we can do so but we need to let them know that we are taking this action due to their behaviour. That way at least they know that hey you lost a customer because your using the money earned legitimally no one disputes that to further evil. Are you obbligated by the church to boycott that business?
From what I have read unless the business is directly involved with evil we are not obbligated. An example a company puts out shares and ask investors for capital and the company has abortion clinics. Well the money they are getting from the investors is being used directy to do evil and we should boicot it no doubt about it.

Almost every major company is engaged in or supports some form of immorality. Some have just become more vocal about it thinking that their support will boost sales.

Um no. If it was, youd basically be buying everything at farmers markets.

It’s no surprise that companies cater to homosexuals because demographics show them to constitute part of the highest economic strata; and homosexuals versus heterosexuals have a spendy-trendy buying pattern, quicker to make purchases to stay up-to-date. I can forego Home Depot, Starbucks et alii. Most of all, I avoid “Made in China.”

With the money, “I” earn, I buy where and when I choose. I drive a Ford, I like Starbucks every once in awhile, I like Kraft foods, I could care less about the sexual orientation of my hairdresser, real estate agent or bank teller. (none of my business actually). I don’t live in a cave, I live in the real world.🤷

No.

That thought process would mean we should all be living alone in a cave naked without food and water.

I would also like to express concern supporting companies like Apple and Microsoft, but for different reasons. I’ve heard companies like Apple and Microsoft have their products made in China under deplorable conditions. In Apple’s case, I heard that the factories have had to put up nets to catch people who wish to jump and commit suicide because things are so bad.

I think this is an important starting point. However, once we know that a company or a wealthy individual makes significant financial contributions to support same sex “marriage,” Planned Parenthood, etc, aren’t we then duty bound as Catholics to at least try to find alternative sources of whatever product we need among providers who do not contribute to morally unacceptable “causes?”

Case in point- having just found out (I must live in a cave) that Yahoo management supports same sex “marriage,” I determined to find an alternate email provider. Thanks to another CAF member on another thread, it didn’t take long- catholic.org provides free email accounts. I opened one and it seems to work fine. Google, of course, is harder to avoid, but there must certainly be search engines which do not make significant contributions to promote the homosexualist agenda or abortion. I’m still looking into that one.

Starbucks, Target, and Penneys are easy to avoid. I’ll get my coffee at Exxon station if I have to.

Imagine if every Catholic in the United States boycotted these firms? How quickly do you think they would reverse their funding agendas? The combined economic clout of the entire Catholic population of the US is far greater than that of the homosexualists or the militant anti-lifers…if only Catholics would wake up!

I just found catholicculture.org, which rates Catholic websites for fidelity, resources, and useability. They don’t seem to list Catholic websites by product type, but they do give Catholic Exchange, which offers free webmail accounts, their highest rating. They also give CAF their highest rating- no surprise there!😃

On another note, it is unfortunate that one of the major purveyors of textbooks for Catholic colleges is Amazon…whose owner just gave 2.5 million in support of same sex “marriage.” His “stand” if any, on abortion “rights” is ambiguous; in the UK Amazon has apparently been accused of being pro-life!!!

It is indeed hard to avoid spending money with these organizations, especially those who have a near-monopoly on their market. However, I contend the notion that we shouldn’t even bother trying because we live in the real world, etc. etc. Also, I think that making an effort to spend my money with Catholic owned businesses, or those whose corporate directors or owners have values in line with Catholic teaching, is a good thing in and of itself even if it doesn’t have any impact on Google, Starbucks, Target, Yahoo, etc.etc.

All I see is a right-wing bias in the media and I’m a conservative as well as a nationalist.
